Remont, 72, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 in Houston. Born on the 15th of Nov. 1937, in Cut Off, Larry was the second of five children born to Ozite Galiano and Edmond Joseph Remont. Larry graduated from Louisiana State University in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, and also served in the National Guard. Larry built his career in the Petroleum industry, focusing on drilling fluids. After a long history of work in Houston starting with Baroid, then moving to Maurer Engineering, Mizell Corporation, Petrolite, Global Drilling Fluids and Anchor Drilling Fluids, Larry then took his work to M-I Drilling Fluids Canada, Inc. and Reef Mud in Calgary. Larry so enjoyed sharing his knowledge in his field that upon return to Houston in 2002, he took his wealth of knowledge in drilling fluids to the classrooms. He shared his expertise throughout the world, as far from home as Egypt. During his career Larry co-authored 15 publications on his field. He was a 50-year, recognized, member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. Larry was also a long-time member of St. Francis de Sales Church in Houston. During his free time, Larry enjoyed reading and spending time with his grandsons. His intellectual curiosity, patience and attention to detail were appreciated by all those he came into contact with and will be remembered forever. Larry was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Kay Dee Doiron Remont of Houston; one daughter, Dorree Remont Colson and her husband, Michael, of Houston and their children, Daniel and Walker; two sisters, Lois Burton of Houma and Miriam Tivet and partner, John Guidry of Houma; his brothers, Louis (Gene) and Erica (Rickey) Remont of Houma, and Dale and Sandy Remont of Lafayette; and a host of nieces and nephews. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston, where the Recitation of the Holy Rosary, to be led by Deacon Jean-Paul Budinger, is to commence at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Anne Catholic Community, 2140 Westheimer Road in Houston, where the Rev. Alvin A. Sinasac, C.S.B., will serve as celebrant. The family will then accompany Larry to his final resting place in Louisiana, where friends are once again cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Chauvin Funeral Home, 5899 Highway 311 in Houma. Immediately following the visitation, a Liturgy of the Word is to be conducted in the adjacent chapel. Rite of Committal is to follow at St. Frances de Sales Cemetery, also in Houma.
