He was born Oct. 29, 1947 in Mansfield, to Bertha and Oliver 'O.P.' Savoie. Errol is a 1965 graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School in Houma, a 1974 graduate of LSU, and earned a masters degree from Louisiana Tech. Errol served honorably in the US Air Force from 1968-1971, and completed a tour of duty in Southeast Asia in 1969-70. When he returned, Errol resumed his education at LSU and served as editor of the Daily Reveille in 1974. Upon graduation from LSU, Errol joined International Paper where he enjoyed a long career including positions as lobbyist, head of corporate public relations and corporate spokesperson. After he retired, Errol returned to South Louisiana, the place he loved, and continued the work he loved in PR and political consulting. There are very few others who follow the great game of politics and culture with the style, wit and savvy brought by Errol. He is survived by his mother Bertha Savoie of Houma; his son, daughter-in-law and grandson, Radley, Jill and Alex Savoie of Bozeman, Mont.; his sisters and brother-in-law, Patsy and John Hunt of Houston, and Olive Savoie Dumez of Houma; his nieces and nephews, Rochelle Hunt and daughter, Lauren of Houston, Adrian Hunt of Northridge, Calif. , Cheryl and Nick Celauro and son, Anthony of Houston, and Harold and Celeste Hunt of Dallas, Louis and Catherine Belanger and children, Sarah, Michael, Emily and Rebecca of New Orleans, John and Alana Belanger and daughter, Harley of Gardnerville, Nev.; and his dear friend and companion, Lisa Stansbury. He was preceded in death by his father, Oliver 'O.P.' Savoie. To the doctors and staff at the Baton Rouge General ICU, we want to extend our most sincere and heartfelt thanks. Your care of Errol and his family made us feel as if we were a part of your family, and for that we will be forever grateful. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans or other Veterans associated charity, Lifeshare blood centers, the LSU Manship School, LPB or coastal restoration organizations. Visiting will be from 9 a.m. to funeral time Wednesday at Chauvin Funeral Home, 5899 Hwy 311, Houma. Chapel service will be at 11 a.m., with a graveside service immediately following.
