Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafourche/obits/dateobits/2010/f1007.htm and click on the name of interest. ========== Kirvey Edward Gagneaux, 88, a native of Chacahoula and resident of Schriever, died peacefully at his home at 9:20 p.m. Sunday, July 4, 2010, with his wife and two daughters by his side. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Thibodaux Funeral Home Chapel and from 8 a.m. to funeral time Thursday at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Schriever. Mass will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Vilrey "Tv" Sonier Gagneaux; two daughters, Faye Seal and husband, Stephen, and Vanessa Knight and husband, Curtis; two brothers, James Gagneaux and Alvin Gagneaux; five grandchildren, Sarah "Katie" Aucoin and husband, Clint, Amy Seal, Betsy Seal, Matthew Knight and Annie Knight; and two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Joshua Aucoin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Romaine and Sarah Gagneaux; one son, Edward Joseph Gagneaux; four brothers, Howard Gagneaux, Harry Gagneaux, Douglas Gagneaux and Abel Gagneaux; and two sisters, Delores Bennett and Marion Toups. His strength and love of life will give his family and friends peace, knowing that he is now at rest. He grew up in Chacahoula surrounded by a large family and developed a strong sense of family. He enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1940, serving in World War II, and was honorably discharged in 1945. He was married to his loving wife, Vilrey Sonier, for 64 years. He worked for a short time for Sugar Bowl Gas Company and in the oilfield as a roustabout. In 1957 he took over a family grocery store in Gray which became Gagneaux's Grocery. He ran it successfully, serving the community for 34 years. He retired in 1991 and moved to Schriever, once again surrounded by his family. He was a member of the Schriever Senior Center where he loved to play cards and was sought after as a Pedro partner. His favorite pastime was cutting grass. He enjoyed spending time with his family and had many gatherings at his home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Schriever Senior Center, 168 La. 311, Schriever, LA 70395.
