Matherne, 82, a native and resident of Raceland, died at 9:10 p.m. Sunday, July 11, 2010. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to funeral time Thursday at St. Hilary of Poitiers Catholic Church. Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Dolores Ledet Matherne; three sons, Raymond Matherne Jr. and wife, Dianne, Brian Matherne and wife, Maureen, and Keith Matherne; one daughter, Celeste Benefield and husband, Rick; two brothers, Eddie Matherne and Bobby Matherne; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie Matherne and Flore Thibodaux Matherne; one stepdaughter, Gwen Melancon; two brothers, Guy Matherne and Elvin Matherne; and three sisters, Vivian Adams, Rose Cretini and Ruby Grabert. He was a parishioner of St. Hilary of Poitiers Catholic Church. He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran, a member of V.F.W. American Legion Lions Club and he was retired from the Post Office after 38 years. Samart-Mothe Funeral Home of Cut Off is in charge of arrangements. ===================
