Oubre Sr., 89, a native and resident of Vacherie, entered eternal life Wednesday, July 28, 2010. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to funeral time Saturday at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Vacherie. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Madeline Becnel Oubre; five daughters, Sonia O. and husband, Earlis Adams, Karen O. and husband, Donald Savoie, Geralyn O. and husband, Donald Conrad, Susan O. and husband, Murphy Stein, and Dana O. and husband, Harold Hymel; two sons, Deacon Ricky and wife, Mabel Zeringue Oubre, and Jessie Oubre Jr.; one sister, Shirley O. Simon; one brother, Roland Oubre; 17 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Therance and Clothilde Rome Oubre; five sisters, Maria Oubre, Celie Chenier, Mildred O. Landry, Gladys O. Becnel, and Dolores O. Ockmond; four brothers, Calvin, Lawrence, Hernest and Clamce Oubre; one granddaughter, Bridget Mary Oubre; and one great-grandson, Nicholas Michael Falgoust. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1942-1946, was a World War II veteran and received a Purple Heart medal, among many others. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4245. A skilled carpenter by trade, he was also an avid gardener. Thibodaux Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. ===================
