Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafourche/obits/dateobits/2010/f1008.htm and click on the name of interest. ========== Conrad Joseph Lirette, 99, a resident of Bayou Black, died peacefully at home at 3:20 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 16, 2010. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to funeral time Thursday at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Mass of Christian burial will be held at noon Thursday at the church, with burial following at Bayou Black Cemetery. Conrad was the devoted and loving father of three daughters, Constance "Connie" Casente, Mary Elizabeth Lirette Vest, and Alexis Hellman, wife of Dr. Stephen Hellman; stepfather of Celseter J. Brien; 11 grandchildren, Sal Casente Jr., Mary Catherine Glass, Lisa Hebert, Susan Connick, Arlen Vest, Derek Vest, Tara Vest, Daniel Hellman, John Hellman, Stephen Hellman and Alexander Hellman; six step-grandchildren, Shane Brien, Brian Brien, Aimee Johnson, Al Jean Lirette, Gary Paul Lirette and Jack Lirette; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great- grandchild. The oldest of 11 children, he is survived by Reggie Lirette Sr., Shirley Thibodeaux and Dale Lirette of Houma, Charles Elliot Lirette of Moon, Va., and Murray Lirette of Slidell; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sadie Tregre Lirette; his first wife, Bertha Mey Baldwin; his parents, Alexander and Edith Prejean Lirette; one stepson, Jean Mey Lirette; son-in-law, Dr. Sal Casente; two grandchildren, Gina Maria and Mary Elizabeth Casente; two brothers, Alexander and Raymond Lirette; and three sisters, Edith Lirette, Marion Russell and Elizabeth Dawson. Conrad was a member of the first graduating class of the Lorton Preparatory School in 1931. He attended Delgado in New Orleans and worked in that city for a short while with Merril Lynch. His love for Terrebonne Parish, fishing and hunting prompted his return to Houma in 1934. He was employed by Humble Oil (Standard) Oil, retiring after 30 years. He and family members grew and sold Easter Lilly bulbs on land later developed as Plantation Gardens. In addition he developed other properties in the Bayou Black area along Savanne Road and Lirette Street. In 1952, he formed the Conrad Lirette Boat company and later Bayou Barge Co., Inc. from which he operated his various businesses. He worked into his 80s, leasing land for various oil companies. Conrad Lirette was the first king of Hyacinthians and an original member of the Terraineans Carnival Club. He loved this parish and was honored to be elected police juror for Ward 9 for eight years from 1964-1972. He was proud to be a member of the Board of Directors of American Bank form 1967-1996. He was a parishioner and a former usher of St. Anthony of Padua Church and was a member of the Bayou Black Fire Department. His later years were spent quietly with his family bringing joy and love to each with his gentle and thoughtful manner. The family would like to acknowledge his devoted care givers, Vera Landry, Janice McGuin, Debra Vasquez and Tina Dardar. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to your favorite charity.
