Visitation will be from 9 until mass time Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mass will be held at 10 a.m. at the church, with burial to follow at Cheramie Cemetery. He is survived by his mother, Barbara Callais McGinn; two sons, Desmond Thomas McGinn and Nicholas Monroe McGinn; one daughter, Mary Adrienne McGinn; one brother, Decatur T. Callais; one sister, Anna M. Barrios; one godson, Jeremy T. Shaw; one grandson, Ashton Thomas McGinn; four uncles, Evans Callais Jr., Terrence Callais, Gary "Black" Callais, James P. Callais, and one aunt, Gayle Brister, and their families. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas M. McGinn; grandparents, Hugh T. and Frances McGinn and Anna Callais; great-grandparents, Eugene and Cherita Chouest; and cousins Terrence Callais Jr. and Hope Danielle Callais. Desmond loved playing tennis, building computers from components and was a sports writer for numerous newspapers. He served in the Marine Corps for eight years and attained the rank of captain.
