Daniel "Poppie" Smith Sr., 84, a native of Houma and a resident of Montegut, 
died Friday, Aug. 13, 2010.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to funeral time Saturday at Mt. Olive Baptist 
Church in Chauvin. Service will be held at noon Saturday at the church, with 
burial in Bisland Cemetery.

He is survived by one son, Daniel Smith Jr., of Montegut; two daughters, 
Earenstine S. Redmond of Houma and Riva Lee Ross and husband, Jimmie, of 
Montegut; two sisters, Carrie S. McKay and husband, Isaac McKay Sr., and Ora Mae 
Bradley and husband, Kerri Lee, all of Chauvin; seven grandchildren; six great-
grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Augustine Redmond Smith; his parents, 
Isiah and Paige V. Smith; two brothers, Gaston Smith and Amos Smith Sr.; and 
seven sisters, Albertha S. Alridge, Maime S. Williams, Viola Smith, Saadi Smith, 
Elnora Smith, Josephine Smith and Della Lewis.

He was a U. S. veteran serving in the Army during World War II. He was a member 
at Mt. Olive Baptist Church and The Stone Square Lodge. He was a retired 
construction worker for Boh Bros. of New Orleans.

Community Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
