Mary Ann Domangue Bergeron, 74, a native and resident of Houma, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012 
at 4:40 p.m.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012 from 9:30 a.m. until service time at 
First Baptist Church of Houma. Funeral service will begin at 11a.m. at First Baptist Church 
of Houma.

She is survived by her, husband, Wilbert "Buddy" J. Bergeron, Jr., Houma, La., daughters, 
Melissa Valure and husband Ricky, Sr., Patti DeRoche and husband Jim, Kristi Soignet and 
husband Bernard "Joe", Jr., sons, Ralph Bergeron and Kevin Bergeron and fiance' Gretchen 
Pellegrin, brothers, Albert Domangue, Stanley Domangue, grandchildren, Jessica Valure 
Bordelon and husband Joey, Jenny Valure McGuire and husband Robert, Ricky Valure and wife 
Parrish, Ross Valure, Lacey Usey Cressoine and husband Wesley, Laura Usey Roddy and husband 
Ryan, Taylor Usey and fiancé' Fallon Ellender, Nicole Soignet Fenton and husband Daniel,

She was preceded in death by her, parents, John M. Domangue and Leonise Marcel Domangue, 
mother and father in law, W.J. and Edith Adams Bergeron; grandchild, Shannon Bergeron; 
great grandchild, Lyla Valure.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Houma. Mary was a homemaker in every since of 
the word. She was a loving and devoted wife (of nearly 55 years) mother, grandmother, and 
great grandmother. She enjoyed traveling, collecting doubloons, dolls and nutcrackers, 
shopping and gardening. She and Buddy also opened their home to dozens of foster children. 
Mary devoted her life to teaching and loving young children. She taught Sunday school, VBS, 
and weekday preschool. Her life's mission was to tell others about the awesome God she 
loved and faithfully served.

Her family is eternally grateful to Dr. Dickie Haydel, Tammy, Kristy, Debra, Carol and the 
entire staff of Haydel Memorial Hospice for all the tender loving care given to Mary.

In lieu of flowers, Mary's request was donations be made to Haydel Memorial Hospice, 1011 
Verrett Street, Houma, Louisiana 70360.

Tammy Billiot and husband Clyde Sr., Wanda Mejia and husband John, Trudy Adams and husband 
Teddy Sr., Judy Ougal and husband Edward, Marie Anderson and companion Sonny Bolware, 
Stella Bourg and companion Paul Rivero, Kristy Bourg, Jana Julian and husband Ace; 
brothers, David, Steven, and Ambrose Bourg; sister, Irene Bourg, 44 grandchildren and 23 
great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Champagne Bourg; parents, Armand Bourg and

Jessie Joseph Sr., 86, a native and resident of Raceland, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012.

A Visitation will be held 9 am on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in 
Raceland. A Religious Service will be held 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church on Wednesday, 
Oct. 3, 2012. 

A burial will follow at Young Ladies Benevolent Cemetery in Raceland.

He is survived by his wife Gloria Mae Joseph; sons Jessie Joseph Jr., Zachary (Vonetta) 
Joseph, and Donald Williams; stepsons Wendell Chisley and Robert (Jo Ann) Chisley; 
daughters Roxanne Lewis (companion Sylvester Ingram) and Sandra Faye (James) Hutchinson; 
one stepdaughter Lisa (Austin) Triggs; brothers Warren (Elnora) Joseph, Charles Joseph Sr., 
and L.C. (Geraldine) Joseph; and sister Rose Mary Reed; one godchild Brittany Davis. He is 
survived by 18 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 6 step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence Sr. and Cornelius Joseph; sons Darnell 
Joseph and Renee Joseph; brothers L.J. Joseph, Ernest Joseph Sr. and Willie Joseph and 
Clarence Joseph Sr.; and sisters Thelma Lewis and Irma Joseph.

He was Baptist.

Dorothea Elizabeth Navin Oliphant, 81, a native of Mitchell, South Dakota and a resident of

Muriel Gaudet Robichaux, 87 a native and resident of Raceland died at 2:12 p.m. on Sunday, 
Sept. 30, 2012.

Funeral Home in Raceland, and from 8 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct.

She is survived by her sons, Clyde Robichaux, John Robichaux and wife Sandra; daughters, 
Ann R. Adams and husband Myron, Melanie R. Ponson and husband Don; 10 grandchildren, and 12 
great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Abe J. Robichaux; parents, James Gaudet and Laura 
Burbach Gaudet; son, William "Bill" Robichaux; daughter-in-law, Teresa Robichaux; brother, 
Floyd Gaudet; sister, Laura Hohensee.

She was a parishioner of St. Hilary Catholic Church.

She was a member of the V.F.W Ladies Auxiliary 3665, St. Hilary Council of Catholic Women, 
Ladies Altar Society of St. Mary.

In lieu of flowers donations will be given to her two charities, Rev. Peter Niles Burse and 
Bayou Bell Ringers.

She lived a life of service to her family, church and community.

Shirley Schild Slater, 89 , passed away Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Traditional Jewish graveside service will be held at Congregation Beth Israel Cemetery, 
4221 Frenchmen St., New Orleans, La. on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012 at 1 p.m.

She is survived by her son, Larry Slater and wife Sue; daughter, Madelene Edelman and 
husband Bill; daughter Rickie Charvat and husband Jim; sister Dena Grenell; grandchildren, 
Julie and husband Jason, Ross, Paige and husband Jeff, Courtney, Chelsy and Sean; and 
great-grandchildren Tyler and Sadie; and nieces and nephews .

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Harry A Slater; parents, Harry and Hannah 
Schild, sister Rosalie Ross, and grandson Blake Charvat.

Shirley was born on Dec. 2, 1922 in New Orleans, La., but she resided most of her life in 
Houma, La. After becoming the "war bride" of Harry A Slater, the two remained in Houma and 
were married 63 years. Being a wife and mother meant everything to Shirley; and as her 
family grew to include grandchildren and great-grandchildren she readily made space at her 
famous Thanksgiving table, cooking Kosher turkeys and her delicious stuffing.

An avid gardener, one could reliably count on Shirley to know the name of a beautiful and 
obscure flower or tree. Another passion of Shirley's was Irish Setters; she always had a 
calendar of this favorite dog hanging in her kitchen.

Additionally, Shirley was an active member of Houma's small Jewish community, hosting 
Shabbat services and attending services around the community. She also was a member of Beth 
Israel Synagogue in New Orleans, La. and Hadassah. The last four years Shirley continued 
her commitment to Judaism as a resident in the William Breman Jewish Home in Atlanta, 
Georgia. Fortunately, family remained close-by to keep her company. She was as beloved by 
the Breman Home community as she was by her Houma community.

Betty Jane Amedee Zeringue, 76, a native and lifelong resident of St. James, La., passed 
away peacefully Monday, Oct. 1, 2012. She was born Feb. 14, 1936.

Catholic Church in St. James, La.. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. at the

She is survived by daughter, Wanda Zeringue Morris and husband Kenny; son, Randall Zeringue 
and wife Jennifer; daughter, Charlene Zeringue Gravois and husband Rudy; son, Jason 
Zeringue; brother, Patrick Amedee; grandchildren, Bret, Dusty, Christina, Kimberly, 
Danielle, Leah, and Shelby; and great-grandchildren, Nathan and Kyle.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Allen Zeringue; parents, Semar and Verna Bye 
Amedee; brother, Manuel Amedee; and granddaughter, Cherie Morris.

She was a homemaker, a member of St. James Catholic Church Choir, and a member of Christian 
Mothers. She possessed a talent and passion for both sewing and gardening. A devoted mother 
and grandmother, she will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew her.

sisters, Leona Dufrene and Shirley Estay, and a grandchild, Michelle Adams.

She was a member of Raceland Senior Citizens and the Ladies Altar Society of St. Hilary 
Catholic Church.

p.m.

She is survived by her children Pam Waguespack and Aubrey Domangue, Jr.; sister Yvette 
Cavallo; grandchildren Jason Domangue, Chad Domangue, Jill Waguespack Bartine, and Jennifer 
Waguespack Lerch; and great-grandchildren Isabelle and Jude Domangue, Owen and Noah Allard, 
and Mason Domangue.

She was preceded in death by her husband Aubrey; parents Jules Boudreaux and Felida 
Champagne Boudreaux; brothers, J. B. Boudreaux, Lee Boudreaux, Tony Boudreaux, and Gilbert 
Boudreaux; sisters Eunice Robichaux, Yvonne Dagenhardt, Eula Williams, and Helen Whipple; 
and grandson John Waguespack, Jr.

Millie was a parishioner of Annunziata Catholic Church of Houma. She was a retired bank 
teller and bookkeeper.

She loved spending time with family and friends, traveling, dancing, gardening, and playing 
cards, and was famous for her red velvet cake. She will be missed by all.

Steven William Gray passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012 at his residence in 
Prairieville, La.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Memorial Mass at St. John the 
Evangelist Catholic Church in Prairieville, La. on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012 at 11 a.m., with 
visiting hours beginning at 9 a.m. Fr. Eric Gyan will celebrate the Mass.

Steven was born on April 28, 1987 in Minot, ND. Twenty four days later he became God's 
forever very special gift to Richard and Lucia Gray of Bismark, ND.

Steven grew up in Bismark, ND and attended St. Mary's Grade School, Wachter Junior High 
School and graduated from Bismarck High School in 2006. In April 2007 he moved to 
Louisiana. Throughout Steven's later years he was impacted by a number of people who helped 
him learn and grow as a man. Two very special men, Ashok Gowsami and Shyam Choudhary, the 
CEO and CFO of the Institute of Building Technology and Safety in Virginia, mentored, 
encouraged and assisted Steven in obtaining his certifications as a Certified Residential 
Building Code Inspector.

As a Building Inspector, another special person, Geoff Large of Florida and Terrebonne 
Parish, played a major role in teaching and mentoring Steven as did five other special 
friends, Elton Noland, Robert Noland, Tommy Lajaunie, Jim Richard and Mark Harrell, all of 
Louisiana. Steven worked for the Institute of Building Technology and Safety in Houma from 
2008-2009, and the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness from 
2009-2010.

Steven enjoyed many things in life such as camping, computers, psychology, soccer, boating 
and fishing, photography, video games and mardi gras parades. He also enjoyed riding 
motorcycles and taking trips with his dad.

Steven is survived by his parents, Richard and Lucia Gray of Prairieville; paternal 
grandmother, Eleanor Gray of Woodbridge, VA; a brother, Brad Berlin of Portland, OR; 
seventeen aunts and uncles; thirty-three cousins and five special life-long friends, Cole 
Stevens, Rob Snyder and Danny Garceau of North Dakota, Richard Kimball of Louisiana and 
Erin Frey of Pennsylvania.

Preceding Steven in death were his paternal grandfather, Cdr. William J. Gray of Fairfax 
Station, VA and maternal grandparents, Wendell and Elizabeth Kambeitz of Napoleon, ND.

She retired from the Terrebonne Parish School System after 33 years as a teacher and 
Guidance Counselor. She was a Sponsor of the H.L. Bourgeois Raindancers for many years in 
addition to a Sophomore Class Sponsor, Free Enterprise Week Sponsor and National Honor 
Society Sponsor. Mary was also a lifetime member of the Terrebonne High School Alumni 
Assocation. The family would like to thank Haydel Memorial Hospice and the ladies who 
assisted during her illness.

John Cecil Floyd, MD, a resident of Houma, and a native of Rome, GA passed away early 
Sunday Oct. 7, 2012 due to complications of colon cancer.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012 at 6 p.m. at First Baptist Church 
of Houma, 7382 Main Street, Houma, La. 70360.

He was born March 3, 1957, to Carolyn Blake Floyd and Cecil Floyd. John graduated a year 
early from high school at The Darlington School in Rome, and earned degrees from University 
of Georgia and Tulane University School of Medicine. He served his internship and residency 
at Ochsner Medical Foundation in New Orleans, Louisiana. He practiced in Houma as an OB/GYN 
from June, 1989 until illness no longer allowed him to practice in late 2011.

He was Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and was a member of the American 
College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Louisiana State Medical Society, Terrebonne 
Independent Physicians' Association, and Terrebonne Parish Medical Society.

Dr. Floyd was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn Blake Floyd and his uncle, John 
Ashby Floyd. He is survived by his children, Blake, Ben, Seth and Hope Floyd; their mother 
and former wife, Ann Floyd; step children, Amanda, Butch and Will Reeves; their mother, and 
former wife, Patti Reeves Floyd; father and step mother, Cecil and Ladre Cumbe Floyd;

Dr. Floyd loved family, spending time with his children and their always present friends,

and his office Women's Health and Wellness. He talked fondly of his time spent on medical 
mission trips during high school and college. Dr. Floyd was a member of First Baptist 
Church Houma.

Board. She taught hundreds of children during her career. She taught immediately out of 
high school at the Dulac Indian School, while attending Nicholls State College. She also 
taught at Bourg Elementary, Legion Park School and Lisa Park Elementary. She was also in 
the first graduating class when Nicholls State became a 4 year college.

After retiring from teaching, she went on to get a real estate license and became an agent 
for Century 21 and ReMax for 15 years.

Merian was a member of the Terrebonne Fine Arts Guild. She volunteered at Southdown Museum 
and Downtown on the Bayou. She was the President of Arts and Humantities and Chairman of 
the Board for Council on Aging and a board member at Maria Immacolata School. Merian also 
volunteered for the 4-H club at Legion Park for 20 years.

"Nanan".

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph J. Griffin; her parents, Leon and Emily 
Gautreaux Rogers, two sisters, Earline Rogers Dominique, and Lonise Rogers Breaux.

She was also preceded in death by a nephew, Milton "MJ" Dominique, Jr.; and a great niece, 
Nikki Adams Garner.

She was a member of the V.H. Boudreaux Senior Citizens Center for 34 plus years. She 
enjoyed meeting family and friends at the Center as well as making handmade quilts. She and 
seven other members of the center made over 1000 quilts. She loved music and dancing. She 
also loved to work in her flowers. Her strong faith was a very important part of her life 
and brought her comfort.

Lorena Rogers Griffin was a parishioner of Holy Savior Catholic Church and a member of the 
Ladies Altar Society for 60 plus years.

Special thanks to all of her nieces, nephews, and family members, sitters, The Broadway 
Elder Living and Rehabilitation Staff and Journey Hospice for the loving care given to her.

She was loving, caring and compassionate. She will be sadly missed by everyone that had the

Shirley M. Dupre, age 70, passed away Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012 in Maryville TN after a 
courageous struggle with lung cancer.

A private service will be held.

She is survived by her son, Roy Navarre, daughter-in-law S. Silvia Navarre and two 
grandsons, Luke and Dominic, in Zillah, Washington; her twin sister Anne Mackenzie and 
brother Archie Black; and her companion and caregiver Thomas Urban of Cleveland, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lee Dupre of Bayou Blue; her parents, James and 
Thomasina Black; and brothers Jim and Brian Black from Edinburgh, Scotland.

Shirley was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, where she met her former husband Duroy J. Navarre 
of Houma, who was stationed there with the United States Air Force.

Shirley lived in Houma from the 70s, until 2008, when after one hurricane evacuation and 
aftermath too many she moved to Walland, Tenn. to be near the Smokey Mountains, which she 
had loved for decades.

Shirley had many friends in Houma, was soft-hearted and helped many in times of need. 
Shirley enjoyed spoiling her young grandsons, loved trailer camping around the south with 
her two German shepherds, fishing, bowling, and was a passionate animal lover.

Moved to Houma at 17 years old from Pine Tree Texas and graduated Terrebonne High School in 
1950. Married her high school sweetheart and raised four boys, remained active in her local 
Methodist church , continued her education later and began a fulltime career as a nurse in 
her 40s and continued nursing until she retired at age 62.

She and her husband of 59 years remained active in the First United Methodist Church – 
where she sang in the choir every Sunday until her death.

She was loved by everyone for her kindness, beautiful voice , delicious lemon pie, love of 
music, food, family, and culture.

The world has lost a beautiful face, voice, cook, wife, mother, grandmother ,and friend.

Marvin Marks Matherne, 81, a native of New Orleans and a resident of Raceland, passed away 
surrounded by his loving family on Oct. 12, 2012, after fighting a short, hard battle with 
cancer.

701 W. Virtue Street, Chalmette, La. on Wednesday, Oct. 17, between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m..

Born in New Orleans, Marvin resided in Chalmette for 44 years, and after Katrina moved to 
Raceland, La., where he made many more good friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Patricia Russo Matherne; five children: 
Stephanie Vogt (Kenny). Carla Kittrell (Ronnie), Marvin Matherne, Jr., Shelly Sehlinger 
(Lonnie), Alison Ellis (Greg); eight grandchildren: Ken (Leigh Anne) and Amy Vogt, Sarah 
and Megan Kittrell, Caitlyn and Troy Sehlinger, Cody Matherne and Ashley Ellis; one great-
grandchild, Trey Vogt; along with many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Octave and Cornelia Matherne and brothers Alvin and 
Filbert "Chuck" Matherne.

Marvin served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, was a lifelong 
parishioner of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Parish, and was a member of numerous professional 
and social organizations including the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 11, the Metal 
Masters' Retiree Club, Pete Fountain's Walking Club, Corinthian Sailing Association, Zoo 
Crew, Fun For All and the Workout Company.

William H "Billy, Wild Bill" Newsom III, a native of Brenham, Texas, was born March 1, 1950 
and lost his battle with brain cancer on Oct. 16, 2012.

Services to say goodbye to Billy will be held at Falgout Funeral home, Visitations will be 
Friday 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. A farewell to Billy will be held at 10 
a.m. with a motorcycle precession to 

Garden of Memories Cemetery in Gray.

He will be dearly missed by his wife Nancy; his son, Billy Joe Trahan and wife Becky Lyons, 
son Kyle Davenport and wife Mersadies; mother, Imagene Newsom Wells, sister Judith Pree, 
and his grandchildren who held his heart, Lauren White, Heaven Lyons, Hope Ann Trahan, 
Reese Davenport ANd Kyle Davenport Jr. He was also survived by many nieces, nephews, and 
many friends.

He was proceeded in death by his father, William (Bill) Newsom Jr. and his grandson Hayden 
Paul Davenport.

Billy moved to Houma Louisiana at the age of 9. He was drafted into the Army in 1970 and 
honorably discharged in 1971.

He went to work in the oil field as a deckhand and from there he started driving crew boats 
in 1974.

He received his Captains license in 2004. Billy continued working for various companies as 
a crew boat captain. He retired from Cheramie Crewboat Inc. in 2009.

Billy's greatest pleasures were spending time with his family and friends, playing with his 
grandchildren, fishing, gardening, fixing anything, and the passion of his motorcycle.

He was an active member of the National Harley Owners Group."Ride to Live, Live to Ride"

husband Keith, six great-grandchildren: Lexi Faucheaux, Kaylee and Caroline Whatley, Kai

Nelson was a Lance Cpl in the United States Marines, a Home, Hook and Ladder Fireman, a 
Lion's Club member, a Knights of Columbus member, and a 1970 graduate of LSU School of 
Banking and a lifelong parishioner of St. Genevieve church. He was employed by Lafourche 
National Bank for 36 years.

Nelson loved his family and friends. His hobbies included cooking, reading and hunting, but 
mostly fishing!
He was wonderful father and loving, dedicated husband and will be missed by his family and 
friends.

Delatte. She was a Devout Catholic, a people person, and a loving mother and grandmother 
who enjoyed embroidering, bingo, traveling, gardening, fishing, word search puzzles, going 
to the casino, and spending quality time with family and friends.

Joyeuse "Joy" Laurents Weldon, 97, a native of Lake Arthur, LA and lifelong resident of 
Thibodaux, was born on October 30, 1914 and passed away at 4:45 a.m. on Oct. 21, 2012 
surrounded by her loved ones.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Landry's Funeral Home in Thibodaux, 
and on Wednesday, from 8 a.m. to funeral time at 11 a.m. at Christ the Redeemer in 
Thibodaux. 

Interment will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery in Thibodaux.

She is survived by her son Joseph Weldon Jr., cherished grand-daughter, Joyce Weldon Dugas 
and husband Anthony Dugas; great grandchildren Duane Dugas and girlfriend Shena Dupuy, Ryan 
Dugas and fiancé Annaleza Kerne, Lelia Dugas; great-great granddaughter, Chloe Dugas; step-
grandchildren children, Sarah Walters Legendre and Wilson Walters; sister, Alice Kelly – 
who all will cherish and keep her memory and traditions alive.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Weldon Sr., companion Dave Barrios; 
parents, Gustave Laurents and Adele Champagne; son, Ernest Weldon; brothers, Robert 
Laurents, Gustave Laurents Jr.; sister, Adele Flash

Mrs. Weldon attended Peabody College and graduated as a Registered Nurse. She later retired 
from the public health system. She lived through the Great Depression and appreciated the 
simple things in life. She enjoyed working in her yard, traveling, eating out, crocheting, 
sewing and spending time with her family. Her family meant the world to her; especially her 
beloved grand-daughter and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Weldon was a devout Catholic who served her church community as a religious teacher, 
Eucharistic minister, prayer line volunteer and giving communion to the home bound 
parishioners. She was a past Regent to Catholic Daughter's Court Anna Maria and a World Day 
of Prayer Chairwoman.

She lived her life serving God and the community and will forever hold her family's heart. 
God surely called an angel home.

Josephine (Josie) Adeline Clement Bourgeois, 72, a native and resident of Thibodaux, 
entered into Heaven to be with her Lord and Savior peacefully on Oct. 19, 2012.

Services will be held at Thibodaux Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening 
between 5p.m. until 8 p.m., and Wednesday between 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. Services will start 
at 12 p.m. with 

burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.

On Jan. 10, 1958 she married Wilbert Joseph Bourgeois. Together they had six children. 
Josie was a loving dedicated mother, wife and grandmother who enjoyed life and lived it to 
the fullest. She was very proud of her grandchildren and bragged on them often. She enjoyed 
spending time with family and friends.

Josie is survived by six children: Ray Bourgeois and wife Carla of Lawrenceville, GA; Wayne 
(Mongo) Bourgeois of Thibodaux, La.; Cheryl and husband Martin Redmond of Carlyss, La.; 
Karen and husband Rene Richardson of Thibodaux, La., Aaron (Pookie) Bourgeois and wife 
Donna of Dequincy, La.; Nadine and husband Brett Hunt of Mandeville, La.

She is survived by 11 grandchildren, Sarah Knight; Courtney, Caleb and Aaron Redmond; 
Austin Bourgeois; Dustin and Hazel Hunt; Cindy, Joseph, Daisy, Jenifer and numerous nieces 
and nephews. She is survived by one brother Autrey Clement and one sister Mary Ann

She was preceded in death by her mother, Beaulah Plaisance Egle'; her father, Edward Milton 
Egle'; her sister, Diana Egle' Esposito; her stepbrother, Steve Lebouef; and her 
stepsister, Joan Lebouef Guidry.

Debbie was born on September 6, 1950, was raised in Golden Meadow, LA, and was the youngest 
of three daughters.

Debbie and Vernon founded Financial Strategies Group in 2001 and she worked as the 
Administrative Manager for the business functions handling accounting, personnel, 
regulatory compliance, and maintenance of office technology. She had over 30 years of 
accounting and office management experience, including 20 years as a Financial Controller 
with Waste Management, holding positions in the United States and abroad.

She served many years in leadership positions with the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra as 
Treasurer, on the board of the Acadiana Symphony Women's League, and on numerous 
committees. She was co-chair of the 2005 River Ranch Music Festival; served on every 
Acadiana Symphony Showhouse committee; and was famous for her fabulous gift baskets at the 
annual Madhatter's luncheon. She was not only a lover of the symphony but was beloved by 
the members of the symphony and their board members.

She enjoyed gardening, traveling with husband Vernon, and all things food...she was a great 
cook and as her father used to say, 'the hostess with the mostess'.

But above all, Debbie was a great friend to everyone who met her. She was always willing to 
listen, to lend a helping hand, and was adept at 'telling it like it is' in a way that made 
the recipient feel cared for and understood. Her outgoing and vibrant personality lit up 
every room she ever entered. She was vivacious, talented, and beautiful spiritually as well 
as physically. Her unflagging faith in the face of adversity was and will remain an example 
to all who knew her. She lived a beautiful life, and her glowing smile and infectiously 
happy personality will brighten Heaven in the same way she blessed so many lives.

Sarah Little Percle was born on May 22, 1939, in West Monroe, La., and passed from this 
earth on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, in Raceland, La.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012 at Thibodaux Funeral Home in Thibodaux, 
La. from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. with a memorial service taking place at 7 p.m.

A second memorial service will be held in Monroe, LA at a later date.

Left to mourn her passing are her husband, Raymond Percle, of Thibodaux, La.; her sisters, 
Patricia Little Camp Collie of Calhoun, La., and Violet Little Liner of West Monroe, La.; 
and a horde of nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws, and friends. Also left behind are her 
dear canine family, Heidi and Reese.

Preceding her in death are her parents, A. B. (Jack) Little and Alyne Lee Little; her 
brothers A. B. (Jack) Little, Jr., Courtney "Red" Little, Henry Albert Little, and John 
Paul Little

Sarah was 13 years old when both her parents passed away and she and her older sister 
helped raise the younger children. Sarah attended Calhoun High School, Baton Rouge High 
School, and graduated from West Monroe High School in 1957. She worked her way through 
college as a reporter for the Monroe News Star. She graduated from the University of 
Louisiana at Monroe (then NLSC) in 1967 and moved to Thibodaux to take a job.

Sarah received her MBA in Marketing from Nicholls State University and married Raymond 
Percle from Thibodaux in 1969. Sarah and Raymond lived in Thibodaux, Gray, Houma, Kenner, 
and finally back to Thibodaux. Sarah worked for the Lafourche Sheriff's Department and the 
Lafourche Parish School Board. She retired in 2004.

Perry J.L. Bourgeois, 87, a native and resident of Chackbay, La. died peacefully on 
Wednesday, Oct. 24,2012 at the Southeast La. War Veterans Home in Reserve, La.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Emily Tauzin Bourgeois, one son, Michael C. 
Bourgeois and wife, Christine Pierron Bourgeois of Lafayette, La., four grandchildren, 
Benjamin M. Bourgeois of Austin, Texas, Aimee B. Luna and husband, Patrick Luna of Katy, 
Texas, Alicia K. Bourgeois and Alexis C. Bourgeois, both of Lafayette, La., four sisters, 
Myrtle Rodrigue, Houma, La.; Thelma Abadie, Gramercy, La.; Elma Allemand and brother in law 
, Earlis Houma, La. and Rita Mae Scioneaux, Chackbay, La. and brother in law, Francis 
Falgoust, Vacherie, La.

He is preceded in death by his parents Mr. Vernon L. Bourgeois and Mr. Rida and Mrs. Ada 
Martin Rodrigue, and brothers, Vernon L. Bourgeois and Rida Rodrigue Jr., and one sister, 
Velma Falgoust.

He was a member of Company E, 17th Infantry Army and served from 1943-1946 in World War II 
as a combat infantry and rifleman. During this time, he was involved in two significant 
ground combat battles at the Battle of Okinawa in Japan and the Battle of Leyte in the 
Philippines.

He is a recipient of the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, The Philippine Liberation Ribbon 
and a Purple Heart with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, two Bronze Stars and numerous other meritorious 
citations and medals for these campaigns and service during his enlistment period. One 
Bronze Star was with a "V" for Valor, accompanied by a Presidential Citation for "personal 
heroism in combat action against hostile enemy forces on May 8, 1945 on the island of 
Okinawa, Rukayu Island. It was here while under intense military machine gun fire, while 
seeking help for several of his fellow seriously wounded soldiers, he covered a wounded 
soldier with his own body sustaining wounds in the process. For his selfless act of 
courage, his actions saved the lives of three seriously wounded men on that day."

He was a member of the "Military Order of the Purple Heart", The Disabled American 
Veterans, The American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He retired in 1979 from Exxon Company, USA, now known as ExxonMobil Production Company, 
with 31 years of service as an Instrument Technician. His service began in 1948 as a 
Roughneck and Derrickman with Humble Oil & Refining Company on Rig 39. He served as a 
Liquid Propane Gas Inspector for the State of Louisiana Department of Transportation for 
ten years subsequent to his retirement from Exxon. He was also a founder and lifetime 
charter member of "The Chackbay Volunteer Fire Department."

Walter J. Landry, 81, passed away on Oct 24 at his home in Arlington, VA.

The funeral will be Monday, Oct 29.

He is survived by his wife Carolyn (née Kruschke) of 49 years; their six children: Celeste 
of Boulder, Col., John of Providence, R.I., Joseph of Dallas, Catherine of San Jose, Cal., 
Walter, Jr of Pasadena, Cal., and James of Wellesley, Mass.; ten grandchildren; and his 
sister Margie LeBlanc of Lafayette, La.

He was born January 23, 1931, to John and Lelia (née Peltier) Landry in Waggerman, La. He 
earned a BS in mechanical engineering from Notre Dame, served in Korea (1953-54) as a 
Marine Corps Lieutenant, and then was a legislative director for Senator Russell Long. He 
earned a law degree from Tulane University and practiced law before joining the Foreign 
Service in 1962. He served in Paraguay, Spain and on the US delegation to the Organization 
of American States where his work drafting the Inter-American Convention on Human Rights 
stimulated a lifelong interest in civil and human rights.

Always proud of his Cajun heritage, Walter settled his family in Lafayette, La. in 1970 
where Walter was a political science professor at USL (now UL), completed his PhD in 
political science from American University, practiced law, was a senior researcher for the 
1974 Louisiana Constitutional Convention, ran for political office, chaired the parish 
Democratic Committee and was active in other civic organizations.

Walter relocated to the DC area in 1990 where he founded a think tank promoting national 
self-determination for ethnic minorities, co-produced community access television programs, 
traded on the foreign exchange futures market, and was involved in the NOVA Catholic 
Community.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Arlington County Public Library or 
Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Arlington.

Jerry owned and operated Jerry's Body Repair for 32 years. He enjoyed hunting, the beach, 
family, friends, and life. Although Jerry was known for saying many witty things, his most 
memorable phrase was "I love you!" especially to his beautiful girls on "I love you 
Wednesday."

Tuesday, from 9 a.m. too 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Mass 
of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic 
Church. 

Burial will follow in the Terrebonne Memorial Park.

She is survived by her sons, Daniel Hotard and wife Brenda of Lafayette La., and Dale 
Hotard and wife Debora of Houma; daughters, Dr. Jane Loustaunau and husband Dr. Javier of 
Los Mochis Mexico, Helen Velez of Dallas Texas; sister, Estellina Desalotte; grandchildren, 
Felix Hotard, Mark Hotard, Jessica H. Chancey, Charles Hotard, Amber Castro, Jennifer 
Hojati, Rebecca Hotard, Amy Hotard, Julian Velez, Maria Woodside, Tania Shook and Javier 
Loustaunau.

She is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first spouse, Faris Hotard, and second pouse: Charles A 
Pye; parents, Alcee Hebert and Belle Mahler Hebert; brothers, Willis Hebert, Wilbert 
Hebert, Lenord Hebert and Huey Hebert, Alcide Hebert, and Caliste Hebert; sisters, Emily 
Hunter and Adaline Fanguy.

She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

Carol Faulkner Calongne Sammartino, 75, native of Brighton, Alabama, former resident of 
Houma and resident of Slidell, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at the Metairie Funeral Home of La. Muhleisen & Son, 
Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, with 

Interment at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Metairie.

Beloved wife of Jerry J. Sammartino. Beloved mother of Leslie Calongne Carrigan and husband 
Kelly, Sr. of Abita Springs, and Candace Calongne Cuccia and husband Robert of Houma. 
Devoted grandmother of Kelly Carrigan, Jr., Jeremy Prosperie, Katherine Cuccia and Andrea 
Cuccia and great- grandmother of Tayla, Keilah, Logan John, Jr. and Zoey. Loving sister of 
Wesley Faulkner of Metairie and Patricia Faulkner of Prairieville.

She was preceded in death by her parents Marion Gordy Faulkner and Bonnie Dee Whitley 
Faulkner, as well as her brother, Gordy Theodore Faulkner.

A homemaker and a devout Catholic, Carol loved her family dearly and will be greatly 
missed.

Una Mae "Felo" LeBlanc Toups, 87, a native and resident of Donner, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 
2012 surrounded by family.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, 2012 at Thibodaux Funeral Home 
and from 9 a.m. until funeral time Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church 
in Chacahoula. Mass will be at 11 a.m. at the church, with 

burial in St. Lawrence Catholic Church cemetery in Chacahoula.

She is survived by three daughters, Gayle Thibodaux of Donner, Kay Stone and husband Gil of 
Houma, and Darlene Adams of Thibodaux; 6 grandchildren, Lori Pizzuto and husband Stephen of 
Mandeville, Deidre Fowler and husband Don of Lafayette, Courtney Hubbell and husband Todd 
of Thibodaux, Kyle Roberts and wife Angie of California, Scott Adams and wife Debra of Des 
Allemands, and Craig Roberts of Houma; 7 great grandchildren, Abby Moore, Brittany Adams, 
Sarah Hubbell, Broc Adams, Carley Pizzuto, Adam Hubbell, and Ariah Roberts.

Una Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Walter "Pot" Toups; her parents Oliver 
LeBlanc and Mathilde Boudreaux LeBlanc; her brother, Lee Roy LeBlanc; and her son-in-law 
Russell Thibodaux.

She loved her children, grandchildren, extended family and friends and was very generous to 
those in need. Being a faith-filled person, Felo was instrumental in implementing the 
Prayer Line Ministry in her Church Parish. She was also on the committee that started the 
Donner Reunion.

Una Mae was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church. During her life she was an active 
member of many organizations serving as an officer through the years in the Mother-Father 
Club at Gibson School, The Home Makers Club, The Ladies Fire Auxiliary, St. Lawrence Ladies 
Altar Society, and TOPS #LA 370.

WERTHER, NANCY 

Nancy Sue Werther, 79, native of Hobbs, New Mexico and long- time resident of Houma, died 
Oct. 12, 2012 in Anchorage Alaska.

Memorial Service will be held at Samart Funeral Home in Bayou Blue on Friday Nov. 16 at 6 
p.m.

Nancy is survived by her son Mike Ivy (Ann) of Houma and four daughters, Peggy Hankins 
(late Stacy) of Snowflake, AZ; Deborah Richey (Robert) of Anchorage, AK; Cheryl Callais of 
Kingston, WA and Cynthia Werther of Houma. She had 15 grandchildren and seven great 
grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her late husband Richard Werther, children Tony Ivy and Vickie 
Stach; and her parents Tom Finn and Daisy Patton.

Nancy was known throughout her years as "Ms. Debbie" owner of Debbie's Trophies. She was a 
founding member of Krewe of Cleopatra and always loved riding in the parades and hosting 
events for the club. She was an avid bowler and once held the title for the first woman to 
have the highest triplicate score - she held that title for over 20 years. She enjoyed 
spending time with her friends and family and was a beloved Saints fan. Nancy was a loving 
mother and grandmother and a loyal friend; she will be missed by all.

Betty Rogers, Adele Whaley, Elise and Lucille Naquin.

She was a member of the Catholic Daughters, Court Anna Marie #993 and Lafourche Heritage
