Alcide Foret, 90, a member of the greatest generation, departed life at 11:50 
p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2013. He was a native of Raceland and a resident of 
Thibodaux.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until funeral time Wednesday at St. John the 
Evangelist Catholic Church in Thibodaux. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 
11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, 

with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery in Thibodaux.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marcia Dobson Foret; daughter, Kathy 
Mire and husband, Rodney; grandchildren, Donovan Mire and Erika Mire Rodrigue 
and husband, B.J.; great-grandchildren, Samantha, Angelle and Alexandra Mire 
and Brayson, Ean, and Kinsley Rodrigue; sisters, Martha Bourgeois Grabert, 
Flossie Martin and husband, Abraham, Louella Matherne and husband, Daniel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Samson and Alida Guidry Foret.

He was a member of the 146th Combat Engineers during World War II and served as 
a heavy weapons non-commissioned officer. He supervised the activities of .30 
and .50 caliber machine gun crews selecting positions for the weapons and 
directing their use. He was among the first wave of troops to land on Omaha 
Beach during the invasion of Normandy. He fought for the liberation of France 
for six months to the day when he was hit by snipers during the Battle of the 
Bulge.

He was a recipient of the Purple Heart, European Theater of Operations Campaign 
Medal with three battle stars, Good Conduct Medal and Distinguished Unit Medal.
He served several terms as Commander of V.F.W. Post No. 5097 and was Commander 
of the Third District in 1960.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested in his name to St. Jude 
Children's Research Hospital or St. Joseph Hospice Foundation.

Landry's Funeral Home in Thibodaux is in charge of arrangements.
