Athanas J. Griffin, 88, a native of Golden Meadow and a resident of Lockport, 
died at 12:27 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Samart-Mothe Funeral Home in Cut 
Off. Visitation will also be from 8 a.m. until funeral time Saturday at the 
funeral home. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in 
Galliano, with 

burial in Cheramie Cemetery.

He is survived by his sons, Floyd Anthony Griffin and companion, Kim Broussard, 
and Claude Joseph Griffin and wife, Mandy; daughters, Patsy Sandras Eymard, 
Sylvia Griffin Curole and husband, Reynolds, Betty Griffin Terrebonne and 
husband, Gary, Darlene Griffin Walker and husband, Bobby, Charlene Griffin 
Bourg and husband, Mike, and Phyllis Griffin Melancon and husband, Timmy (The 
Legend); sisters, Jeanette Griffin Nunn and Eloise Griffin; 17 grandchildren; 
22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Collins Griffin; his parents, 
Justillian Griffin Sr. and Dulcina Perrin Griffin; a son-in-law, Jimmy Eymard; 
brothers, Justillian (Jay) Griffin Jr., Kirby Cheramie and Odeno Cheramie; and 
one sister, Gertie Griffin Ledet.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II in the European Theatre and a member 
of the V.F.W.

Samart-Mothe Funeral Home in Cut Off is in charge of arrangements.
