Hymel was born in St. James on Dec. 4, 1931 and passed away at home in Vacherie at 6:40 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2013. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until funeral time Thursday at Our Lady of Peace Church in Vacherie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, with burial in Our Lady of Peace Church cemetery in Vacherie. He was the loving husband of Augustine "Teen" Marse Hymel, his wife of 57 years. He is survived by his children, Geralyn H. Becnel and husband, Bryon, and Connie H. Morvant and husband, Benton; grandchildren, Heidi B. Martinez and husband, Robby, Shawn Becnel and fiancee', Nicole Poche, and Robert Morvant; great-granddaughter, Allie Martinez; and sisters-in-law, Claire Gauthreaux, Janice Hymel, and Doon Marse. He is also survived by his brothers, Eddie J. Hymel and wife, Grace, and Herman J. Hymel; and sisters, Audrey H. Becnel and husband, Jimmie, Carlyn H. Kliebert and husband, A.J., Sylvia H. Bourgeois and husband, Lionel, Janet H. Ponson and husband, Carroll, and Jane H. Rivere. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jules and Lucella Loup Hymel; and a brother, Warren P. Hymel. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1514, a Korean Conflict Veteran and a retiree from Monsanto after 30 years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his memory to The National Shrine of Blessed Francis Seelos, 919 Josephine St., New Orleans, La. 70130, or to St. Joseph Hospice, Bayou Region, 103 Ridgefield Rd., Thibodaux, La. 70301.
