Toups Jr., 72, banker, business consultant, animal lover, gardener and fisherman, died Friday morning, Jan. 11, 2013, peacefully in his sleep of natural causes. He donated his body to the Louisiana State University School of Medicine. Mr. Toups, loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, is survived by his wife, Julia Ledet Toups; his children, David Toups, Janet Toups Lewis and her husband, Scott, Sue Toups Bonvillian and her husband, Barry, Dwayne Beason, and Donna Beason Warciski and her husband, Glenn; 11 grandchildren; five great- grandchildren; his sister, Edith Marie Toups; and his brother, Robert Toups and sister-in-law, Karen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Sr. and Margaret Brunet Toups. Leonard proudly served his country for five years as a U.S. Army sergeant during the Berlin crisis. With 38 years in the banking profession and retired as a senior vice-president, Leonard formed life-long relationships both personal and professional. He was loved by all who worked with him. For Leonard, the light was always on the other person. He lived by the words, "It's more important to be human than it is to be important." His well-known problem-solving ability is fondly remembered by a quote he frequently used, "Yard by yard, life is hard, but inch by inch, it's a cinch." He leaves a legacy to many whom he mentored over the years. During the years that followed, he served as a business consultant, financial advisor and along with his wife, Julia, owned and ran a successful swamp tour business. He loved his family, friends, the outdoors, the sunshine and his faithful dog, Ayla. Those who knew Leonard will miss his patient, generous spirit, his gentle smile, his sense of humor and his kind words of wisdom. A private family memorial is scheduled. Memorial donations may be sent to the Louis Infant's Crisis Center of Houma. ======================
