Rogers, 62, born Dec. 16, 1950, a native of Bayou Blue, went to be with his Father in heaven Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013. His body succumbed to cancer, the effects of exposure to the chemical Agent Orange during his service in Vietnam 1970-1971 in Con Thien on the D.M.Z. By the grace of God, he was able to come home from that war, as opposed to the thousands of his brothers who are named on The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall. However, cancer caused him to become a casualty of that war after all. After becoming aware of the effects of Agent Orange, but before the cancer diagnosis, he became an informal, yet passionate advocate for fellow veterans and their families. He helped many people navigate the bureaucratic red tape of the Veterans Administration. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Thibodaux Funeral Home. Visitation will also be from 8 a.m. until funeral time Friday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Gray. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years come March 2013, Patricia "Pat" Durocher Rogers; daughter, Darcus Rogers Landry, her husband, Shawn Landry, and children, Emmy and Alyssa; son Blake Rogers, his wife, Rosalind Rogers, and children, Trishten and Gabriel; son Ryan Rogers, his wife, Michelle Rogers, and children, Jansen, Austin, and Jasiah; daughter, Lee Durocher Mott, her husband, Lorne Mott Jr., and children, Lauren, Kelly, and Ty. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Rogers and Muriel Trosclair Rogers; siblings, Judy Rogers Hebert, Jennifer Rogers Schwab and Raymond Rogers Jr. Wayne was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and Sharpshooter (Rifle). Before becoming a voice for veterans, many young men knew his voice on the football field as "Coach Wayne" with TPR football. "My grand-maw was slow but she was old, and she had no legs," he would jokingly chide his offensive line. Thibodaux Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. ======================
