ARCENEAUX, TOM "TOMMIE EUGENE" 

Tom "Tommie Eugene" Arceneaux Ph.D., Ed., was born in Houma on Jan. 30, 1936, 
and died Monday, March 4, 2013, in the Butterfly Wing of Baton Rouge General 
Hospital. 

He was 77.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until funeral time Saturday at University 
United Methodist Church, 3350 Dalrymple Drive in Baton Rouge. 
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, conducted by the 
Rev. Dr. J. Philip Woodland and the Rev. Carol Civils, 

with burial in Roselawn Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Kathleen Brian Arceneaux; nieces and nephews, 
Mary Elizabeth Arceneaux (Fernand) Dionne of Metairie, George (Lynn) Arceneaux 
III of Carencro, and Robert Martin (Jill) Arceneaux of Katy, Texas; and five 
great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Arceneaux Sr. Ph.D. and Louise 
Austin Arceneaux; and his brother and sister-in-law, U.S. District Judge George 
Arceneaux Jr. and Mary Martin Arceneaux.

A lifelong educator, he continued substitute teaching after retirement, 
received numerous awards as a hunter education instructor for the Louisiana 
Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, and served as a docent for the Baton 
Rouge Zoo. 
While he taught in the public schools of East and West Baton Rouge parishes, 
his students participated and won awards in the annual Louisiana Social Studies 
Fair (including first and grand prize awards), and he was named Teacher of the 
Year. 
He also taught in Florida, on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and at St. Matthew's 
Episcopal School in Houma.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to University 
United Methodist Church or Cat Haven.

Rabenhorst Funeral Home in Baton Rouge is in charge of arrangements.
