Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafourche/obits/dateobits/2013/f1303.htm and click on the name of interest. ========== Charles Broeg, 96, retired chemist, vice-president and technical director of Revere Sugar Corporation (formerly SuCrest Corporation), died March 14, 2013. Visitation with family present will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Broadway Mortuary in Wichita, Kan. Charles will be buried in Magnolia Cemetery in Houma, He is survived by his niece, Susan W. (Don) Lear of Wichita, Kan.; nephew Jim (Cindy) Winfiele of Midlothian, Va.; and nephew, Stephen (Marilyn) Kitten of Gaffney, S.C.; and numerous great and grand nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Ann Carroll Kellis Broeg. Charles was born March 15, 1916, in Princeton, Ind., to Julius Scott and Bessie Colvin Broeg. He graduated with honors in chemistry, physics and mathematics from DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind., earned his M.S. degree from Oklahoma State University in physical organic chemistry and completed his Ph.D. from Tulane University in chemistry. He served as director to the World Sugar Research Org., the International Sugar Research Foundation, the New York Sugar Trade Laboratory and the National Confectioners' Association. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, serving in the Philippines where he developed techniques for underwater welding and served in the Naval Reserves. Charles was a lifelong scholar, a kind and gracious gentleman, and a dearly loved uncle. A memorial has been established with the Pregnancy Crisis Center of Wichita, Inc., 1048 N. West St., Wichita, Kan. 67203. Broadway Mortuary in Witchita, Kan., is in charge of arrangements. ======================
