Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafourche/obits/dateobits/2013/f1303.htm and click on the name of interest. ========== Hideo Koike, 92, a native of Hawaii, and longtime resident of Houma, died at 12:55 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2013. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until funeral time Sunday at First United Methodist Church in Houma. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the church. He is survived by his daughter, Donna Y.K. Bourg and husband, Jeffery Bourg; sons, Edgar Koike and Kevin Koike and wife, Lori; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Massao Koike; and sisters, Elsie K. Honda and Nancy Koike, all of Honolulu, Hawaii. He was preceded in death by his dear wife of 60 years, Takeko Iida Koike; parents, Toshio and Iwako Koike; and brother, Haruo and Hiroo Koike. After earning a B.A. degree at the University of Hawaii, and both M.S. and Ph.D. degrees at Kansas State University, he went on to become an internationally know sugar cane pathologist. He dedicated more than 30 years to sugar cane disease research for both the USDA and the United Nations. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was also an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Houma for many years. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to the MacDonell Children's Services, 8326 Main St., Houma, La. 70363.
