He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Virginia Nelson; daughters, Melody Nelson and Pam Nelson Holmes and husband, Chuck; grandson, Nelson Holmes and wife, Courtney; great-grandson, Hudson Holmes; great-granddaughter, Eleanor Holmes, and other loving relatives. Calvin was born on November 7, 1924, in Donner, to Arthur and Edna Langlois Nelson. He and his family were residents of Donner during the years the Dibert, Stark, and Brown Cypress Company sawmill was in operation. Calvin loved Donner during the years he lived there in the sawmill days. He wrote a segment in Jo Anne Plessala's book, "Donner Memories, a Second Helping" in which he stated: "I cherish the memories of the little town I lived in so many years ago, and I often share these memories with my family and childhood friends. I do not know why, but I seem to be obsessed with the place of my roots – the place I called 'home' for the first 12 years of my life." In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to a charity of choice .
