John Paul Vandercook Sr., 88, a native of Little Rock, Ark., and resident of 
Houma, died at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2013.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until funeral time Friday at Mulberry Baptist 
Church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church. 

A graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Restlawn Park Cemetery 
in Avondale.

He is survived by his sons, John Vandercook Jr. and wife, Fran, of Centerville, 
Charles Vandercook and wife, Pat, of Covington, and Philip Vandercook and wife, 
Sandy, of Gretna; daughter, Cherry Vandercook Blackwell and husband, Ben, of 
Destrahan; sisters, Jane Thompson, Virginia Pool, Bertha McIntyre and Charlotte 
Love; grandchildren, Michael Vandercook, David and Melody Blackwell, Anna and 
Amy Vandercook, and John and Heather Vandercook; five great-grandchildren; and 
two special friends, Gail Bonvillain and Chelsie Windwehen.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Gunn Vandercook; parents, Venus 
Vandercook and Margarette LaGrave Vandercook; brother, Russell Vandercook; and 
sister, Marie Townsend.

He was a member of Mulberry Baptist Church. 
He was the director of Global Maritime Ministries and served in the U.S. Navy 
during World War II.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to Global 
Maritime Ministries, Inc., P.O. Box 750787, New Orleans, La. 70175.
