Lula "Dean" Bernadine Hamby Cancienne, a native of Greer, S.C., and resident of 
Gibson, died at 8 a.m. Monday, April 1, 2013.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Chauvin Funeral Home and from 9 
a.m. until funeral time Friday at First United Methodist Church. Funeral 
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church, 

with burial in Bayou Black Cemetery.

She is survived by her sons, Wayne Cancienne and wife, Jan, of Houma, and 
Claude J. Cancienne Jr. and wife, Lois, of Mississippi; daughters, Dolores 
Taylor and husband, Dave, of Ocala, Fla., and Denise Pepperman of Chalmette; 
grandchildren, Norman Taylor, Chris Cancienne, Shawn Duet, Amanda Cancienne 
Bortko, Amber Cancienne and Robbie Pepperman; five great-grandchildren; 
brother, Jack Hamby and wife, Carolyn; and sister, Derleith Hamby.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude J. Cancienne Sr.; parents, 
George and Nannie Hamby; and brothers, George, J.D., Lacy, Doyle and Ebb Hamby.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church.

She was a member and past president of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and 
the United Methodist Women. She volunteered for 25 years in nursing homes and 
the V.A. Clinic, where she was awarded Volunteer of the Year in 2010. She was 
also awarded Person of the Year at First United Methodist Church. She was a 
great softball coach for girls in the late 60's and early 70's. She sewed 
really well and loved Saints and LSU football. She was an avid reader. She 
loved cooking, gardening, bowling, traveling and spending time with her family.

Chauvin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements
