John is survived by his wife, Susan Gautreaux Gray; stepdaughter, Katie Kaai and son-in-law Kawika Kaai, of Morgan City; granddaughter, Sarah Hoku Kaai; sister, Rebecca Gray Nuelle and brother-in-law, Thomas Nuelle, of Katy, Texas; niece, Lauren Johnson and husband, Travis; nephews and their wives, John Thomas Nuelle and Cassie, and William Gray Nuelle and Brittny; aunt, Sue Hutcherson; his beloved Mother, Shirley Hodnett Gray; niece, Brooke Marie Gautreaux; and nephews, Justin David and Hunter Lee Meaux, of New Orleans. He was preceded in death by his father, John Louis Gray, of Fort Worth, Texas; cousin, Stephen Hutcherson, of Houma; and grandparents, Buster and Fannie Hodnett, and Jake and Biggie Gray. John loved and enjoyed the children our family has been blessed with. He spent countless holidays and family vacations with his sister and her family. When our niece, Brooke, was born he spent as much time as possible with her. His granddaughter, Sarah was the light of his eyes. He was there from the moment she was born. He graduated from Vandebilt Catholic High in 1977. John battled Squamous Cell Carcinoma And Urothelial Cancer of the bladder for over two years. He fought the good fight, he finished his race, and he kept his faith. I would like to lovingly thank Tom and Rebeca Nuelle for opening their home to us during John's treatment in Houston, Texas, and for always making us feel welcomed. Also, a deep and heartfelt thank you to Susan and Chet Morrison for going out of their way to constantly make certain John was comfortable and peaceful. Thank you to Theresa Larose at CMC for always being available to help us in every way.
