Helen Marcel Matherne, 85, a native of Shawnee, Okla., and resident of Houma, 
died Saturday, March 30, 2013.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. until funeral time today at Chauvin Funeral 
Home. Funeral services will be at noon today at the funeral home, 

with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Gray.

She is survived by her brother, Billy Ellzey and wife, Phyllis, of Norman, 
Okla.; sons, James Marcel and wife, Brenda, of Houma, and Craig Marcel and 
wife, Dezra, of Atlanta, Ga.; daughters, Judy Andrews of Houma, Tammy Breaux of 
Houma, and Lana Falterman and husband, David, of Sunset; stepdaughters, Mary 
Folse, Jennie Matherne and Connie Hornesby and family; stepson, Wayne Matherne 
and family; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-
grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lucian L. Ellzey Sr. and Lena Jane 
Ellzey; first husband, Levy Marcel; second husband, Bruce C. Matherne; sisters, 
Mary Skinner and husband, Hobb, Patsy Ansel and husband, Hershel, and Betty 
Broughton and husband, P.W.; numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law in 
both the Marcel and Matherne families; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was a member of Bayou Blue Methodist Church.

The family would like to give special thanks to her family at the Oaks of 
Houma, most especially her wonderful nurses, aides and staff who took care of 
her in her times of need.

Chauvin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
