He was a native of Person County, N.C., and the son of the late Paul Samuel and Gladys Watson Buckner. A celebration of life in a casual setting will be led by Neal Bowes at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel in Burlington, N.C. The family will have a gathering prior to the service from 12 to 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home. A graveside service will be at Cooper's Family Cemetery, with military honors provided by the 82nd Airborne Division. He is survived by his daughters, Pamela Buckner and her partner, Molly Parker, of Graham, N.C., and Robin Bonvillain and her husband, Blaine, of Gulf Shores, Ala.; granddaughters, Hayley and Hilary Bonvillain; sisters, Phyllis Bowes and husband, Neal, of Leasburg, N.C., Priscilla Weaver, of Saxapahaw, N.C., Brenda Compton, of Burlington, N.C., and Joan Gregg and husband, Scott, of Mebane, N.C.; brother, Paul Buckner and wife, Deborah, of Burlington, N.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Samuel and Gladys Watson Buckner; brother, Ricky Buckner; and former wife and mother of their children, Barbara Keatts Buckner. Robert was the founder of Buckner Rental Service and the owner and operator of Redfish Rentals in Houma. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam War. Robert was a lifetime member of Nascar Speedway Club, Mount Rushmore National Parks and the Harley Davidson Club. He enjoyed being outdoors and was an avid hunter.
