He was born on June 6, 1936 in Lampasas, Texas, to Floyd C. Barkley and Effie Lou Kinsey Barkley. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until funeral time Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Cole Chapel, Texas. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Don Lee officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Murphree Cemetery in Evant, Texas. Don is survived by his wife, Dolores; daughter, Phyllis Barkley Briggs; son-in- law, Terry Briggs; son, Douglas M.H. Barkley; daughter-in-law, Meredith Zacek Barkley; grandchildren, Rachel Briggs, Stephen Briggs, Joseph Briggs, Camille Barkley and Blythe Barkley; and brother, William Douglas Barkley. He was preceded in death by his parents; and infant brother, Charles Edwin Barkley. He married Dolores Herrington in New Iberia, October 5, 1963. He was a graduate of petroleum engineering from the University of Texas in Austin. He was an Eagle Scout, a U.S. Army veteran and a 40-year petroleum executive. After 40 years as a resident of south Louisiana, he retired back to Texas. He was an avid golfer, hunter and domino player. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Denton, Texas.
