Maurice "Wag" Becnel, 85, a native and resident of Vacherie, passed away 
Wednesday, June 5, 2013.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until funeral time Monday at Our Lady of Peace 
in Vacherie. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the church, 

with burial in Our Lady of Peace cemetery in Vacherie.

He is survived by his children, Clyde Becnel and wife, Patricia "Pat", Belinda 
Becnel and companion, Brian "Chub" Rodrigue, Maurice Becnel Jr. and wife, 
Roxanne, James Becnel and wife, Tirzah; brothers, Gustave Becnel and Patrick 
Becnel; sisters, Beulah Triche, Adelina Legendre and Gloria Stein; 12 
grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Daisy Kraemer Becnel; parents, Roseluis 
"Pep" Becnel and Fannie Dempster; and brothers, Francis and Leopold Becnel.

He retired after working for 35 years with Avondale Shipyards. 
He was an Army veteran who served in Japan after World War II. 
He was a simple man who enjoyed the simple things in life. 
He was an avid Saints fan who enjoyed working outdoors, gardening and doing 
handyman work for his neighbors.

Thibodaux Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
