Helen Edith Dowell Gills, 83, died at 9:05 a.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2013. 

She was a native of Savannah, Ga., and a long-time resident of Belle Meade 
subdivision in Gretna.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in 
Harvey. 

Burial will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

She is survived by her daughters, Cathy Gills Bundy and husband, Carl, of 
Houma, and Virginia Gills Centanni and husband, Randy, of Huntsville, Ala.; 
four grandchildren, Sheila Reese, of Houma, C. Michelle Goutierez, Joseph 
Centanni, of Huntsville, Ala., and Lenice Centanni, of Huntsville, Ala.; five 
great-grandchildren; brothers, Alphene W. "Bubber" Dowel and wife, Peggy, of 
Atlanta, Ga., and Bill Dowell and wife, Kaye, of Savannah, Ga.; and sister, 
Diane Saturday and husband, Joey, of Savannah, Ga.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Julian Scott Gills; and parents, 
Alphene W. Dowell and Helen Edith Werntz Dowell.

She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church.

She was very active in her church. She enjoyed taking care of everyone she met 
and loved her grandchildren.

Chauvin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
