Dr. Alcuin Florian Gremillion, 87, Professor Emeritus from the University of 
Arkansas at Little Rock in the Department of Chemistry and Physics, a native of 
Thibodaux and resident Little Rock, passed away Sunday, June 2, 2013. 

He was born December 24, 1925 to the late Florian Paul and Jeanne Delas 
Gremillion.

Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home 
Chapel in Little Rock, Arkansas, followed by a rosary service at 7 p.m. A Mass 
of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of the Holy Souls 
Catholic Church with Monsignor Lawrence Fredrick officiating, 

with burial at Calvary Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Britt Gremillion; three daughters, Helen 
Jeanne Plummer and husband Bob, Cynthia Anne Gremillion, and Elizabeth Marie 
Ballard; one granddaughter, Rachel Alderman; brother, Chol Gremillion and wife 
Bonnie; and one sister, Heloise Grant and husband Newton.

Dr. Gremillion receive his early education in the Catholic schools of Thibodaux 
where the family resided. He received both his Bachelor's in Science and 
Master's in Science degrees in chemistry and physics at Louisiana State 
University in Baton Rouge. For his PhD degree, Dr. Gremillion graduated with 
honors from Tulane University in New Orleans. He remained at Tulane for two 
years as a teacher and research associate before joining the Monsanto Chemical 
Company in St. Louis, Missouri, as a member of the company's research group.

In 1962, Dr. Gremillion returned to academia by invitation to work as a 
scientist at the newly formed University of Arkansas Graduate Institute of 
Technology where he would oversee graduate students through research projects. 
In 1977, he joined the faculty of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and 
remained until his retirement in 1992.

He was the author of many published research papers and the recipient of 
numerous grants throughout his career which supported his research projects 
with his graduate students. His long love for chemistry was well known by all 
who knew him and many were aware of his personal chemistry library of over 
2,000 books and papers.
Dr. Gremillion held membership in the American Chemical Society, ACS Inorganic 
Division; the American Crystallographic Association; and the honor society of 
Sigma Xi. 
He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II and served in the third 
armored division.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer's Arkansas in his name.

Roller-Chenal Funeral Home in Little Rock, Arkansas, is in charge of arrangements.
