He was born June 9, 1941 in Klotzville, LA, was a native of Donaldsonville, LA and resident of Thibodaux, LA. Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 and begin at 11 AM at St. Joseph Co-Cathedral in Thibodaux followed by a Funeral Mass at 2 PM. His career spanned 36 years at Nicholls State University (NSU) where he served as Dean of the College of Business and also as Vice President. His proudest accomplishment of his career at NSU was being granted the initial and subsequent accreditations of the NSU College of Business by the AACSB. He also served on the AACSB National Accreditation team for Colleges and Universities. He was an active member of the Thibodaux Rotary Club where he achieved perfect attendance for 42 consecutive years and was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow. He served as President of the Thibodaux Chamber of Commerce, Thibodaux Rotary Club, and the Southwestern Deans Association. He was named Dean Emeritus at NSU. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Award from the Nicholls Alumni Federation, the Frank Kennedy Citizen of the Year Award from the Thibodaux Chamber of Commerce, the Lifetime Achievement award from the Federation of Business Disciplines, and the Bishops Medal for service to the church from the Diocese of Houma Thibodaux. Dr. Gros served on the Board of Directors of Assumption Bank, LAT Workforce Investment and the South Louisiana Economic Council. He was an avid gardener and spent his retirement hours enjoying his beautiful backyard. He also was an accomplished chef and wine connoisseur and created many gourmet meals enjoyed by his large family and friends. These were his favorite times. Dr. Gros is survived by his wife of 49 years, the former Kathleen Dolese of Thibodaux, LA and his four daughters, Felicia Gros Cowen and her husband Dr. Todd Cowen of Thibodaux, LA, Gabrielle Gros Erny and her husband Chris Erny of Houma, LA, Monique Gros Callagy and her husband Scott Callagy of Dallas, TX, and Mignonne Claire Gros of Austin, TX. He was also survived by eight wonderful grandchildren, Caitlin, Emily, and Max Cowen, Jackson, Clinton, and Colin Erny, and Kathleen and Brooke Callagy. He is also survived by his brother and sister- in-law, Marvin and Myra Gros of Donaldsonville, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents Ridley John Gros and Ezal Marie Daigle Gros, both of Donaldsonville, LA. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Ridley Joseph Gros Scholarship Fund.
