Martin, 86, of Friend, Neb., died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013, in Lincoln, Neb. He was born March 1, 1927, in Lincoln, Neb., to Earl Robert and Carrie Burr Martin. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until funeral time Saturday at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Golden Meadow. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with burial in Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church cemetery in Golden Meadow. He is survived by his wife, Enola S. Esponge Martin, of Friend, Neb.; daughter, Christine (Chris) Martin, of Lincoln, Neb.; son, Bob Martin, of Alton, Mo.; daughter, Lori Martin, of Fort Wayne, Ind.; grandsons, Robert "Robby" Martin, of West Plains, Mo., and Samy Younis, of Cincinnati, Ohio,; granddaughter, Ricky Lee Morris, of West Plains, Mo.; many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Robert and Carrie Burr Martin; sisters, Irene Pine, Carrol Glantz and Orneta Johnson; brother, Kenneth Martin; a son in infancy, Eugene Robert Martin Jr.; and granddaughter, Dena Younis. Eugene graduated from Waverly High School in Waverly, Neb., and served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1952. He served during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He married Enola S. Esponge Dec. 6, 1947, and they were together for 66 years. He had worked in the insurance and real estate business since 1963. Eugene was a member of American Legion Post No. 183 in Friend, Neb., the Chamber of Commerce and the Professional Insurance Agents Association. He was a founding member and served 49 years as president of Friendship Terrace, which assisted seniors in his community with housing. He loved working with his hands, especially remodeling homes, and enjoyed fishing when he was in Louisiana and traveling with his family.
