Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafourche/obits/dateobits/2013/f1312.htm and click on the name of interest. ========== Della Rhodes Matherne, 98, a native of Houma and resident of Ferry Road in Bourg, passed away Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at her home. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until funeral time Tuesday at St. Ann Catholic Church in Bourg. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with burial in Matherne-Rogers Cemetery. She is survived by her sons, Kenneth Paul Matherne Sr. and companion, Anita "Peggy" Aguillard and Don Peter Matherne and wife, Consuelo "Connie" Ledet Matherne; daughter, Sue Ellen Matherne Olin and husband, Loyd Olin Jr.; grandchildren, Pamela Matherne Guidry, Shane Paul Matherne, Kenneth Paul Matherne Jr., Keith Aaron Matherne, Nicole Dufrene Streva, Craig Patrick Hebert, Elizabeth Dellane Hebert, Francine Hebert Sheppard, Melanie Matherne Story and Stephanie Matherne Wright; 17 great-grandchildren; six great-great- grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and numerous step-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin Peter Matherne; Parents, Luke and Corinne Authement Rhodes; daughter-in-law, Juanice Cockerham Matherne; brothers, Druby, David, Lawrence, Milton "Mickey", William and Harold Rhodes; sisters, Iola Rhodes Duplantis and Ruby Rhodes Boudreaux; and one step- grandchild. Della was a retired teacher in Terrebonne Parish and was for a long time known as "Miss Della" in the Bourg Community. She was very instrumental in furthering the cause of adult education in Terrebonne Parish and received both parish and state honors for her efforts during the 1950s and 1960s. She presented Christmas Nativity plays for many years not only at the Bourg school where she taught but also at St. Ann Catholic Church in Bourg and Bayou Blue United Methodist Church on Bayou Blue. She was in addition at one time a museum docent for 14 years, giving tours in both English and French at Southdown Plantation Home Museum in Houma. The family would like to extend special thanks to her sitter, Mary Parfait, and to the team at Haydel Memorial Hospice. ======================
