Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafourche/obits/dateobits/2014/f1401.htm and click on the name of interest. ========== Dwayne Jennings, 76, a native of California and a resident of Lockport, passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 2:40 p.m. in Houma. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 22nd at the First Baptist Church in Valentine. A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Valentine, 9334 Hwy. 308, with burial to follow at Holy Savior Cemetery in Lockport. He is survived by his wife, Bertha Jennings; daughter, Cheryl Jennings; granddaughter, Chelsea Jennings English and husband Garrett; great- grandchildren, Owen and Oliver English; and sister, Elaine J. Helzer. He was preceded in death by his son, Daren Jennings and parents, Lawrence “Curley” and Doris Jennings. He was a 33rd Degree Mason, a member of the clown unit in the Shriner’s Club, and a former member of the Elks Club. He organized the first English-speaking lodge in Ecuador – the George Washington Lodge #1. He worked at NASA as a weather watcher. He also worked for the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office and enjoyed driving the work-release inmates and helping them acquire waste water certification. He was the author of the children’s story, “The Strawberry Squirrel.” He loved black powder cannons, fishing and telling jokes and was a mentor to many.
