Laura Jones, 81, passed away, January 21, 2014, native of Lexington, TN and 
resident of Thibodaux, LA. 

Visitation will be from 5PM until 8PM Friday, January 24, 2014 at Landry’s 
Funeral Home. Visitation will resume Saturday, January 25, 2014 from 9AM until 
funeral time at First United Methodist Church in Thibodaux, with services at 
11AM at the church, 

burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.

She is survived by her sons, Buck (Jane Ellen) and Clint Jones; daughters, 
Elise (Ray) Poplus and Gianna (William) Cothren; brothers, Olen, Nolen, Fred, 
Jerry and Terry Powers; sisters, Jean Jones and Ara Kopocs; grandchildren, 
Jonathan, Katie, Erin, Holly, Raeanna, Brennen, Chancey, Tiffany and Zachary, 
as well as 6 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Osdell and Minor Rogers Powers; 
sisters, Scarlette Wood and Diana Waldon.

Laura was a compassionate teacher who served for 25 years. She began her career 
as a first grade teacher at Schriever Elementary and later became a professor 
and counselor at Nicholls State University.

She most enjoyed gardening, traveling, camping, remodeling her home and 
spending time with her family and friends. 
Her canine companions held a very special place in her heart and home and will 
be cared for by family in her absence.
