Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Rabenhorst Funeral Home on Government Street in Baton Rouge and from 10 a.m. until funeral time Thursday at St. Agnes Catholic Church at 749 East Blvd. in Baton Rouge. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, with burial in Resthaven Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Baton Rouge. She is survived by her children, Nancy Henchy Savoy, Frank P. Henchy, John L. Henchy, and Gaye Henchy Bourgeois, and their families. Jessie grew up as one of nine children and surviving her in this capacity is her sister, Betty Ellender Lindsey and brother-in-law, Dr. Clyde H. Lindsey, of Baton Rouge. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Francis Patrick Henchy; daughter, Kathryne Henchy Leonard; and granddaughter, Lauren Savoy Olinde. Jessie was born July 14, 1921, to Henry Thomas Ellender and Jessie Chauvin Ellender in the town of Bourg and grew up primarily in Houma. She graduated from LSU with a degree in home economics in 1942 and taught in Raceland prior to marrying Francis. Jessie and Francis made their permanent home in Baton Rouge. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who was a strong example of a Catholic woman who lived her faith and showed how to love God by being a Mother. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to her granddaughter Lauren Savoy Olinde's foundation, the LSO Foundation, 550 Lobdell Ave., Baton Rouge, LA 70806.
