King, 87, of Houma and Jackson, Miss., passed away Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014. Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. Friday at Collins Funeral Home at 461 W. Northside Drive in Jackson, Miss. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Central United Methodist Church in Jackson, Miss., officiated by the Rev. Stephen T. Cook, pastor of Central United Methodist Church and the Rev. Dr. Emma P. Armstrong, pastor of House of Refuge Ministries in Terry, Miss. Burial will be in Autumn Woods Memorial Gardens in Jackson, Miss. Josephine is survived by her siblings, Ezelia Tubbs, Gloria Moss, George Harris, Carrie Smith, Velma Williams, Benita Stringfellow, Maxine Singleton and their families; her children, Alcide Jr., Eris Preston, and Carlos Ramon; daughters-in-law, Barbara and Carla; and grandchildren, Alcide III, Anita, Alicia, Rochelle, Preston and Kennedy. She was preceded in death by her parents, Erise and Gladys Harris; siblings, Joseph, Daniel and Erise Harris Jr., and Lucinda Evers. Josephine was born in Houma on Sept. 17, 1926. This Alpha Kappa Alpha soror received her B.A. in English from Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas. She was married to Alcide King Sr. for 32 years, worked as a teacher in Terrebonne Parish for a few years, then moved to Washington, D.C. She loved serving in her churches and communities wherever she lived and was loved by many, especially the children whose lives she touched. Collins Funeral Home in Jackson, Miss., is in charge of arrangements. ======================
