Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafourche/obits/dateobits/2014/f1403.htm and click on the name of interest. ========== Johnny James "Nookie" Cheramie Sr., 75, a native of Golden Meadow and resident of Erath, passed away at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until funeral time Friday at Evangeline Funeral Home in Delcambre. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Nathan Comeaux officiating, with burial in Migues Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Johnny Cheramie Jr., Donald Martin, Leon Morvant, Joey Vincent, Heath Bourque, and Brennan Vinet. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Reed and Patrick Pitre. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Morvant Cheramie, of Erath; son, Johnny Cheramie Jr. and wife, Angelle, of Maurice; grandchildren, Gracie Cheramie, Charles Reed, and Cammie Cheramie; great-grandchild, Mya Romero; sisters, Mildred C. Martin and husband, Herman, of Cut Off, and Ruth C. Pitre, of Delcambre; brothers, Aramise "Pepper" Martin and Donald "Phonse" Martin and wife, Vickey, all of Delcambre; half-brothers, Ray Cheramie and wife, Nancy, and Duroc "Jay" Cheramie Jr. and wife, Gloria, all of Golden Meadow; stepsister, Lucille Gillenwater, of Illinois; and stepbrothers, Lincoln Martin, of Golden Meadow, and Clarence Martin, of Galliano. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Janet Sonnier Cheramie; son, Charles Cheramie; mother and stepfather, Alcida Martin and Aramise; father, Duroc Cheramie; sister, Bernice "Tip" Arriaga; stepsisters, Bertha Williams and Lucia St. Pierre; and stepbrothers, Linberg, Stanley, and Uderick Martin. Nookie was a shrimper and oysterer from the age of 13. He was the only man to walk across the Delcambre Canal when it froze in 1962. He enjoyed playing cards, horse racing, and spending time with his family. Evangeline Funeral Home in Delcambre is in charge of arrangements. ======================
