Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafourche/obits/dateobits/2014/f1403.htm and click on the name of interest. ========== Sylvia Mosely Johnson was born Aug. 21, 1937, in Tyler, Texas, and departed this life at 3:34 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at Methodist Mansfield Hospital in Arlington, Texas, after a long struggle with a rare form of cancer. A memorial service will be at noon Saturday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Thibodaux. She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Norman M. Johnson Jr., of Thibodaux; daughter, Deborah J. Henning and husband, Timothy F. Henning, of Arlington, Texas; stepchildren, Lionel and Marily Owens, Ava and Gary Washington, and Darryl and Laurie Owens; and many other family and friends who will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Maurice Lanier Mosely and Deborah Stone Mosely; great-grandmother, Annie Kibby; grandparents, Joseph "Jenkins" and Jeannetta Stone; and numerous family and friends. Sylvia attended school in Thibodaux, and decided to further her education. She went to Iowa State University where she met and married Norman Johnson Sr. They divorced and she returned to Thibodaux where she met and married Lionel Owens Sr. and went to Nicholls State University. To raise her family, she began working. She worked as an accountant for Michael Reese Hospital. Sylvia was a strong person and a friend to everyone. She developed friendships that lasted a lifetime and was so giving and loving. She gave it her all. She was known as the caregiver of her family and devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members, even when she was experiencing her own health issues. Her interests included sewing, gardening, and caring for her pets. Her charm and smile enlightened any given moment. The family wishes to sincerely thank everyone for their support and love during these hard times.
