Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. until funeral time Sunday at Memory Chapel Funeral Home, 3100 Audubon Drive, Laurel, MS 39440, 601-428-5235. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with burial in Walters Cemetery, Walters Drive, and (Pecan Grove Community), Ellisville, Miss. Pallbearers will be Dennis Richard "Rick" Ritchey Jr., Gary R. Long, Russell E. "Rusty" Nix Jr., Anthony E. Nix, Grant Hedgepath, and Ray Jenkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Clay Patrick Ritchey and Richard Waltman. Maxine is survived by her son, Steven Anthony Walters, of Houma; daughter, Marian Walters Long and husband, Gary, of Gray; grandson, Dennis Richard "Rick" Ritchey Jr. and wife Kristi, of Houma; granddaughters, Kimberly Nicole "Nikki" Long, of Gray, Angie Long Sumrall and husband, Joel, of Soso, Miss., and Amy Long Warrick, of Richton, Miss.; great-grandchildren, Clay Ritchey, Chy Hillman, Layna Warrick, and Carlee and Jenna Sumrall; sister, Betty Nix Davis and husband, Lewis, of Ellisville, Miss; her beloved pets, Bubba and Tuffy; and a host of family and friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 36 years, Cleborn B. "Nig" Walters, of Ellisville, Miss.; companion, Jimmie P. LeBeouf, of Houma; parents, Andrew J. and Mary Edily Crochet Nix; sister, Carmen Lee Nix Waltman; and brothers, Jack R. Nix and Russell E. Nix Sr. Maxine was born on Aug. 17, 1930, the second child of Andrew J. and Mary Edily Crochet Nix. She loved to cook, sew, and fish. Her favorite color was red, favorite sport was football, and she was an avid Saints fan. She enjoyed listening to Southern Gospel Music. She was a devoted wife, companion, mother, grandmother, and friend. Most of all she loved sitting outside on her patio with her dog and cat and waving to all her neighbors. Maxine was a Christian and was a member of Coteau Baptist Church in Houma. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Terrebonne Council on Aging "Meals on Wheels Program," 995 West Tunnel Blvd., Houma, LA 70360.
