Gauthreaux, 88, a native of White Castle and resident of Thibodaux, died Sunday, June 1, 2014. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until funeral time Thursday at St. Joseph Co- Cathedral in Thibodaux. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at noon Thursday at the church, with burial in St. Joseph Co-Cathedral cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Clarice Hensgens Gauthreaux; sons, Guy Gauthreaux and wife, Debbie, and Joey Gauthreaux and wife, Chrystal; daughters, Gwen Sherburne and husband, Brusle, and Kay Dugruise and husband, Dale; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clebert Gautreaux and Bertha Landry Gautreaux; brothers, Alvin and Haywood; and sisters, Beatrice Sanchez, Pearl Wilson, Ledonia Ponsano, and Anne Jordan. Guy was born on Cora Texas plantation, the son of a blacksmith in White Castle. He earned a high school letter in boxing. He was a combat veteran of World War II who stayed in Europe after the war as an interpreter. He attended the Nuremberg War Trials in Germany. In 1958, Guy joined the South Thibodaux Fire Co. as a charter member. He was an adult scout leader in the early 1960s. He was a charter member and first president of the E.D. White Band Boosters. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He retired from Shell Oil Co. in 1985, with 32 years of service.
