Visitation will be 5-9 Thursday at Chauvin Funeral Home in Houma and from 9 a.m. until funeral time Friday at St. Eloi Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church, with burial in St. Eloi Catholic Church cemetery. He is survived by wife of 57 years, Geraldine Callahan Liner; sons, Sterling "Payne" Liner Jr. and wife, Lavonne, Wade "Petey" Liner and wife, Charlotte, and Michael "Mike" Liner; daughters, Veronica "DeeDee" Babin and husband, Robert, Tracy Lovell and husband, Eric, Paula Sue Dufrene and husband, Brian, and Sarah Coyle and companion, Roy Dean; 14 proud grandchildren, April Vestal, Stephen and Brent Liner, Rebecca Foret, Brooks, Dylan, and Wesley Dehart, Victoria and Christopher Lovell, Brian "B.J." and Eddie Dufrene, Dante and Riley Liner, and Joshua Coyle; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Sines "Doogie" Liner Jr. and Eldrich "Nun" Liner; and sister, Wilda "Butsy" Hebert. He was preceded in death by his son, Yancy Paul Liner; parents, Sines Peter Liner Sr. and Malvina Liner; and sister, Verlin Hebert. Sterling was a parishioner, Eucharistic minister, and usher at St. Eloi Catholic Church. He was a member of Dularge Volunteer Fire Department, third degree member of St. Eloi Knights of Columbus Council No. 8779, and fourth degree member of Holy Family Assembly Knights of Columbus Council No. 2215. By trade, Sterling was a commercial fisherman and trawl netter/craftsman. He will be dearly missed by all his family and friends.
