Mary Louise "Black" Matthews Bolden was born on June 15, 1927 in Mandalay, LA 
and departed this life on July 2, 2014 at her residence in Gibson, LA. 

Mary was one of nine beloved children born to Willie Matthews, Sr., and Gertie 
Aitkens Matthews. Educated in Terrebonne Parish school system, Mary spent most 
of her life working as domestic. 
A dedicated wife, mother, sister, she was known for quick wit and humor.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Gertie Matthews; her 
husband, Henry Bolden; four sons: Henry "Hook" Nash, Thomas "Tommy" Jones, 
Michael Nash, and Standford Bolden; sisters, Eula Mae Norman and Ora Lee "Tee" 
Smith; brothers, Percy Matthews, Sr., and Willie Matthews, Jr., and two 
grandsons, Honri' and Henry Johnson.

She is survived by three sisters: Myrtle Seymore of Gibson, LA, Helen (James) 
Aldridge of Perris, CA, Ruby Kelly of Compton, CA and one brother, James 
Matthews, Sr., of Gibson, LA. Five children, Tyrone C. Bolden of New Orleans, 
LA, Matthew(Alma) Bolden of Riverside, CA, Marcia (Henry) Johnson of Gibson, 
LA; Glenn (Tracy) Bolden of Gibson, LA and Myron "Poon" (Wilma) Ruffin of 
Houma, LA; ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren and a host of 
dedicated cousins, nieces and nephews.

The funeral services will be held at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church in Gibson, LA 
on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 with visitation from 9:00a.m until funeral time at 
12:00p.m. 

She will be laid to rest at Oak Forest Cemetery in Gibson, LA.
