James "Corky" Shelby Jr., 83, a native and resident of Raceland, died Monday, 
July 14, 2014. 

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until funeral time Friday at Third Zion Baptist 
Church in Raceland. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church, 

with burial in Brooklyn Cemetery. 

He is survived by his wife, Antonia Shelby; brother, Gene Shelby Sr.; sisters, 
Olla Mae (Early) Thomas, Shirley Turner, Beatrice Shelby, Doris (Garvena) 
Davlos, and Betty Ann Shelby; five stepchildren; nine grandchildren; and five 
step-great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Sedonia Shelby Sr.; and 
sisters, Margery Every and Rutha Mae Triggs. Kennedy Funeral Home in Raceland 
is in charge of arrangements.
