He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Rosalie Gravois Hymel; five children, Jerry Hymel and wife Linda, Jackie Hymel Richard and husband Mark, Brian Hymel and wife Gina, Carolyn Hymel Robichaux and husband Doug, and Melanie Hymel Toups and husband Chad; one brother Clarence Hymel and wife Shirley; two sisters, Joyce Hymel Dufrense and Cecile Hymel Loup; fourteen grandchildren, Chris Hymel, Matthew Hymel, Michelle Richard Gillespie, Alyson Richard, Aimee Richard, Alex Hymel, Katie Robichaux, Emily Robichaux, Nicholas Robichaux, Mary Grace Robichaux, Michael Robichaux, Jacob Toups, William Toups, and Benjamin Toups; and four great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, Aline Schexnayder Hymel and Severian Hymel; brother, Henry Hymel; four brother-in-laws, June Dufrense, Leroy Loup, Antoine Chenier, and Ernest Gravois. He was a 1952 graduate of Edgard High School and member of the first graduating class of Francis T. Nicholls Jr. College in 1954. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1514 of Vacherie, and a retired sugar cane farmer. He loved to golf and travel. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports, always coaching from sidelines. Visitation will be held Wednesday August 20, 2014 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Vacherie from 8:00am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am officiated by Father Mike Michelli. Entombment will be in St. Phillip Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to E.D. White Athletic or Music Departments. Thibodaux Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
