Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafourche/obits/dateobits/2014/f1408.htm and click on the name of interest. ========== Calvin Joseph Ortego, 91, a native of Ville Platte and resident of Houma, died at 9:50 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11, 2014. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until funeral time Saturday at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, with burial in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2. He is survived by his loving wife, Ann Gwin Ortego, of Houma; daughter, Paula and Tim Greaud, of Houma; sons, Rick and Donna Ortego, of Houma, Dean and Pam Ortego, of Houma, and Mike Ortego, of Lafayette; stepchildren, Mark and Rhonda Lemoine, of Houma, Robin Lemoine, of Fairhope, Alabama, Jennifer Lemoine, of New Orleans, and Laura Lemoine, of Houma. He was blessed with 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Berna Mae Fontenot Ortego; parents, Fabuse Ortego and Amy Ortego; son, J.C. Ortego; three brothers; and one sister. Calvin was a parishioner of St. Anthony Catholic Church. In his early days, Calvin worked the cotton fields during the afternoon and weekends graduating from Ville Platte High School in 1941. In 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served in the South Pacific during World War II. When he returned from the war, he moved to Houma where he started a very successful career in the oil industry. He was a well respected entrepreneur and executive touching many people's lives along the way. Calvin loved fishing, hunting, golfing and his biggest passion was cooking wonderful meals for his family and friends.
