Verena Kauffman Guthrie, 59, a native of Fayette, Iowa, and resident of 
Raceland, lost her battle with cancer Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014.

A memorial visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Samart Funeral Home in 
Houma. 

Burial will be in Edgewood, Iowa.

She is survived by her husband, Amos "Smiley" Guthrie; son, Thomas Guthrie; 
daughter, Amy and husband, Erik; grandchildren, Alexis, Dylan and Seth Guthrie; 
siblings, George Kauffman, Bonnie Wenger and husband, Bill, Elizabeth "Liz" 
VanDee and husband, Don, Anita Barrett and husband, Bob, Doyle Kauffman Jr. and 
wife, Barb, Steve Kauffman and wife, Teresa, Marsha Lens and husband, Rich, 
Richard Kauffman and wife, Joyce, and Robert Kauffman and wife, Deb; brother-
in-law, Mark Calkins; extended family, Rhonda and Brooks Bellanger, their 
children and grandchildren; godchild, Ashley Pearson; and numerous nieces and 
nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Doyle Sr. and Delores Kauffman; 
brother, David Kauffman; sisters, Janice Kauffman and Karen Calkins; sister-in-
law, Roxie Kauffman; and nephew, Mike "Spanky" Wenger.

Verena was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and a loving, giving friend 
to all she met. 

She was employed by Weatherford. 

She will be dearly missed by all.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her name may be made to any local 
cancer foundation.
