He was born in Thibodaux on November 11, 1953 and died on September 21, 2014. He was 60 years old. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 24, 2014 from 6PM until service time at Thibodaux Funeral Home. A prayer service will be at 7:30PM at the funeral home. Visitation will also be held on Saturday, September 27, 2014 from 9AM until service time at Young's Funeral Home in Jonesville, LA. A prayer service will be at 11AM at the funeral home, with burial in Manning Cemetery in Harrisonburg, LA. Larry is survived by his five brothers and their spouses, Earl, Jr. and Pam, Reggie and Brenda, Ronnie and Rhonda, Craig and Stephanie, and Steven Melancon, along with many nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his father, Earl Melancon, Sr. and his mother, Dell Knapp Melancon of Thibodaux, LA, his paternal grandparents, Sonny Augustine Melancon and Julia Sanchez Melancon of Thibodaux, and his maternal grandparents, William C. Knapp, Sr. and Amelia Frith Knapp of Harrisonburg, LA. From a medical perspective, Larry could not verbally communicate or readily express pain, but from a human perspective, he spoke volumes to those he met during his 60 years of life. The one constant description of Larry by his many caregivers was his easy-going demeanor and his smile. Larry loved to take long rides and listen to country music while eating French-fries and snickers. Larry spoke to us through his smiles and through his eyes. After a visit with him, you left a better person with deep soul-searching knowledge that life is precious and needs to be fully lived. We will miss him, but now he is with his mom and dad, and probably talking a lot. The Melancon family wants to thank his many caregivers, especially those associated with the South Louisiana Community Home. We also want to thank the Labadieville emergency responders and Assumption Sheriff's Office who so quickly came to his aid. The Family request that flowers not be sent. Instead, please consider donating in his name to a charity of your choice. ======================
