He joins his beloved wife Nell, and his son David Glen, in heaven. Al is survived by his son, Steve Romano and wife Sandy of Houma, LA; his daughters Ann Biro and husband Emery of Houston, TX; and Mary Romano and partner Stephanie of Atlanta, GA; his four grandchildren: Katie and Alex Morgan, David Romano, and Isabelle Romano-Landry; and his brothers Butch and Mickey Romano and sister Margaret Simmons. Al was born in Bogalusa, Louisiana, on July 21, 1928. He was one of nine children born to Joseph and Eda Romano. After high school, Al enlisted in the Army Air Corp (Air Force), and served two tours of duty - WW2 and Korea. He then enrolled at Southwestern Louisiana Institute, where he earned a degree in Geology, and went on to a career in oilfield sales. He resided in Houma for over 50 years, enjoying a life filled with family and friends. Adversity was not foreign to Al, but he always overcame. His self-discipline and determination were attributes that were much admired. Al participated in many activities and hobbies. Earlier years always found him at St. Francis and Vanderbilt barbecues, Bingo nights, and fund raising events. He was a faithful parishioner at St. Anthony Catholic Church for over 40 years. He later volunteered at Terrebonne General Hospital, and more recently at the St Vincent pharmacy where he could be found two days a week helping out and enjoying the company of the customers and the other volunteers. Al was an avid wood carver for more than 40 years. He spent many hours creating beautiful ducks and birds, several of which won him awards, and enjoying the camaraderie of the other wood carvers. He also loved his time at the Renaissance gym until his very last days, working out and drinking coffee with his many good friends. Al was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law and friend and he will be missed by many. May he rest now in the peace and joy of heaven! The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations are made to St Vincent pharmacy. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 from 9:00am to 11:00am at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.
