Bourg, 88, a native of Bourg and resident of Montegut, passed away at 3:40 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, and from 9 a.m. until funeral time Monday, Jan. 5, at Samart Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Pointe-aux-Chenes, with burial in St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church cemetery in Pointe-aux- Chenes. He is survived by his spouse of 68 years, Rose Mae Dupre; sons, Rodney G. Bourg Sr. and wife, Cynthia, of Houma, and Byron C. Bourg Sr. and wife, Melanie, of Bourg; daughters, Sheila B. Aucoin and husband, David, of Bourg, and Rosalyn M. Bourg, of Greenbrier, Arkansas; grandchildren, Moniquie, Troy, Rodney Jr., Cory, Shane, Reese, Jaime, Byron Jr., and Ryle; great-grandchildren, Wesley, Garrett, Trey, Rian, Currin, Caleb, Ashtyn, Emma, Anna, Turner, Chance, Gaven, Carsen G., Griffen, Noah, Carsen B. and Jayce; and one great-great-grandchild due in two weeks, Oakleigh Rae. He was preceded in death by his parents, Amadeo J. Bourg and Clarice Duplantis Bourg, of Bourg; son, Lonnie P. Bourg, of Houma; brother, Allen J. Bourg; sisters, Ida B. Authement, of Grand Caillou, Ruth Bourg Authement, of Grand Caillou, Josephine B. Boquet, of Bourg, and Rose Marie Bourg, of Bourg. George served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 101st Airborne as a gliderman and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. He was a life member of the Russell Redmond American Legion Post No. 272 in Montegut for 50 years serving as Commander from 1967 to 1968 and 1992 to 1993. He also served as Area C Commander from 1969 to 1970 and Service Officer from 1998 to 1999. George was also a life member of the VFW Post No. 7755 Boquet-Breaux in Bourg for 30 years serving as Commander from 1993 to 1994, Quartermaster from 1995 to 1997, Jr. Vice Commander of District 3 from 1998 to 2002, Sr. Vice Commander from 2002 to 2003, and Post Commander from 2002 to 2003. ‘He was a member of the United Veterans League in Houma from 1998 to 2002, serving as Judge Advocate from 1994 to 2002. He was also a member of K.O.F.C. Council No. 8616 in Pointe-aux-Chenes and was a parishioner and member of St. Charles Borromeo Church Choir in Pointe-aux-Chenes for 15 years. He was a retired field superintendent of 36 years with Texaco, Inc. He also owned and operated B and D Bakery in Montegut and Houma along with Donut Delight in Chauvin for more than 20 years.
