Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafourche/obits/dateobits/2015/f1501.htm and click on the name of interest. ========== James "Jimmy" Robert Dagate, 60, a native and resident of Terrebonne Parish, died peacefully at his home at 1:05 a.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 2015. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until funeral time Tuesday, Jan. 6, at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral. A Memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at the church. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Jennifer "Jenny" Anne Weimer Dagate; mother, Janice "Jane" Marie Hazlip Dagate; sons, Jason Anthony Dagate and wife, Erin Terracina Dagate, and Jacob Daniel Dagate and wife, Brittany Goulas Dagate; grandchildren, Emma Katherine Dagate, James Christopher Dagate and Grant Jacob Dagate; brothers, Lawrence Dagate and Dr. John Dagate; sisters, Annette Dagate Saal and husband, Dr. Christopher Saal and their children, Rachel and Adam Saal, and Robin Dagate Stonecipher and husband, Ben Stonecipher and children, Sam, James and Michelle Stonecipher. He was preceded in death by his father, Anthony John "A.J." Dagate. Jimmy Dagate practiced law for more than 36 years earning a reputation for admirably representing his clients while maintaining a cordial professional relationship with opposing counsel. He was an Assistant District Attorney for Terrebonne Parish since 1997 where he proudly served as general counsel for the Terrebonne Levee and Conservation District, Terrebonne Economic Development Authority, and Houma Terrebonne Housing Authority, in addition to being the former Coordinator and a teacher for District Attorney Joe Waitz Jr.'s Project LEAD (Legal Enrichment and Decision Making) School Program. Jimmy further served his profession as President of the Terrebonne Parish Bar Association (1994), Louisiana State Bar Association Disciplinary Hearing Committee Member (1993-2001) and Chairman (1998-2001), Louisiana State Bar Association Disciplinary Board Member (2004-2007), Former Special Assistant Attorney General, Ad Hoc Judge of the City Court of Houma, Former Teacher of Criminal and Constitutional Law at Terrebonne and Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Training Academy, and a Certified Mediator of Legal Disputes. He was an active civic and community leader in numerous capacities including his service as a volunteer youth basketball and baseball coach, a member of the Board of Directors of Terrebonne General Medical Center and Terrebonne Council on Aging, and as a member of the Houma Terrebonne Chamber of Commerce and Houma- Terrebonne Rotary Club (Paul Harris Fellow, 1990 President and Rotarian of the Year). Jimmy additionally served as host of HTV10's "Law and Government," "The Truth," and "Bayou Time" television shows. He was a 1978 graduate of LSU Law School, a summa cum laude graduate of Nicholls State University, and a 1972 graduate of Vandebilt Catholic High School. He was a parishioner and former lector of Maria Immacolata Catholic Church. Jimmy always put others first, and his advice and counsel were sought by many. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He enjoyed fishing and attending numerous Saints and LSU sporting events. He was so proud to have practiced law with both of his sons. Jimmy Dagate will be greatly missed but never forgotten. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Francis de Sales School or Vandebilt Catholic High School. The family gives special thanks to the many people who provided Jimmy and his family with prayers, comfort and support. Chauvin Funeral Home in Houma is in charge of arrangements.
