Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafourche/obits/dateobits/2015/f1503.htm and click on the name of interest. ========== SSG Lance Jacob Bergeron, 40, A native of Thibodaux and resident of Hammond, was entrusted to God's loving care Tuesday, March 10, 2015, while honorably serving his country. A Celebration of Life will be at 10 a.m. Monday, March 30, at Woodland Park Baptist Church in Hammond. Pastor Scott Thompson will officiate with full military honors by the Louisiana National Guard. He is survived by his wife, Monique Gauthreaux Bergeron; daughter, Callie; son, Landon; parents, Mark and Stella Bergeron; father and mother-in-law, Mike and Wanda Gauthreaux; sister, Melanie Happel; nephews, Cole Happel and Devin Gauthreaux; niece, Ella Happel; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and a wonderful military family. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henry and Betty Bergeron, and Carlos and Janet Hall; and brother-in-law, SGT Jay R. Gauthreaux. Lance was a devoted husband and loving father whose family meant everything to him. Lance was a brother, son and friend to many and a hero to all. He was truly a blessing to all who knew him. Along with his family, Lance had other enjoyments in life, such as Blackhawk helicopters, LSU football and LSU baseball. He also took joy in watching the New York Yankee's baseball games. Staff Sergeant Bergeron enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps Dec. 30, 1993, and served four years active duty. He enlisted in the Louisiana Army National Guard Aug. 24, 2001, and was assigned to the 812th Medical Company (Air Ambulance) in New Orleans, with the Military occupational Specialty 15T, UH-60 Helicopter Repairer. His most recent unit of assignment was Company A, 1st Assault Helicopter Battalion, 244th Aviation Regiment in Hammond. Staff Sergeant Bergeron became a full-time Flight Engineer (Instructor) stationed at the Army Aviation Support Facility in Hammond, Feb. 24, 2002. He mobilized in Support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as a UH-60 Helicopter Repairer with Company D, 1st Command Aviation Battalion, 244th Aviation Regiment, New Orleans, during the period of Dec. 7, 2003, through February 12, 2005, and with Company A, 1st Assault Helicopter Battalion, 244th Aviation Regiment, Hammond, during the period of April 16, 2008, through June 4, 2009. His military awards and decorations include: the Meritorious Service Medal (2nd Award); Air Medal; Army Commendation Medal (3rd Award); Army Good Conduct Medal; Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (3rd Award); National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star; Iraq Campaign Medal with two Campaign Stars; Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Armed Forces Service Medal; Humanitarian Service Medal (2nd Award); Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Bronze Hourglass and Mobilization Device; Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon (2nd Award); Army Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon; Sea Service Deployment Ribbon; Senior Aviation Badge; Combat Action Badge; Louisiana War Cross (2nd Award); Louisiana Emergency Service Medal (3rd Award); Louisiana General Excellence Ribbon (3rd Award); Louisiana Longevity Ribbon (2nd Award); F. Edward Hebert Meritorious Unit Commendation; and the Meritorious Mast (USMC). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name may be made to the Fisher House or the MOJO69 memorial fund.
