Shawn Cortez, 38, born February 11, 1977, a native and resident of Vacherie, died on Friday, March 27, 2015 in a boating accident.

Visitation will be from 9AM until funeral time Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12PM, at the church. 

Burial will follow in Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church cemetery.

He is survived by his daughter, Shawna Cortez; step-son, Trevor Simon, Jr.; parents, Paul Norris "Bayou" and Celeste Cortez; sister, Andrea Cortez; nephew, Jaidan Cortez; brother, Lucas Cortez; maternal grandmother, Bessie Rouge and a host of numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Cheryl H. Cortez; maternal grandfather, John Rouge; paternal grandparents, Joseph F. and Elvire Cortez.

Shawn was an avid fisherman and loved hunting. He was also a huge sports fanatic! He worked at Avondale shipyards for numerous years and was currently an employee of SGS Petroleum Service Corp.
